Huddersfield Control

Huddersfield Control

There have been a few accidents where a train proceeding into an occupied platform has seen the platform exit signal showing a proceed aspect and assumed it was for them - not noticing the train directly in front, with fatal consequences. As a result, Huddersfield Control was designed and installed at the location of the same name whereby:

  • If a calling-on route is set into an occupied platform, the platform exit (platform starter) cannot then have a route set from it
  • If the platform exit signal (platform starter) has a route set from it, then a calling-on route cannot be set into that platform

As Huddersfield Control is a more recent invention, many older installations do not have this feature.
