A Sim is constructed by a developer through data population of a number of data files; these modules then feed into core-code which uses the data to compile the sim correctly. Each file can recognise a number of KEYs preset against which data is written. For example the X and Y co-ordinates of a signal, or point, the length of a track circuit, speeds and so on. We have an editor which can ease the process and in some cases automate some of the data entry.

Different developers will have thei…

Welcome to SimSig's simulation of Derby. The simulation includes the full area covered by Derby, from Tamworth HL via Burton-on-Trent through Derby to Clay Cross & Sheffield and the ?main? line to Loughbrough & St Pancras as far as Spondon. There are also the secondary lines to ?Stoke? and Lichfield HL towards Birmingham, and the single track branch line from Ambergate to Matlock. There is also the freight line from Burton-on-…

How do I become a developer?

First rule: please don't ask to become one. Developers have been picked by their knowledge of the subject which can be picked up from their forum postings. They can also be recommended but again proof of knowledge would be required. As we're a small band of developers, the ti…

Official Meets

Official meets are arranged currently three times a year, roughly mid-March, mid-July, and mid-November, each on a Saturday. The venues for these are usually pub function rooms, with those pubs being in places with easy transportation links. The July meets are in London, the November ones are in Derby. However, the March meet “floats” around the country - we've had Bristol, York, and Peterborough so far. Depending on the venue, a buffet lunch is provided, or you order a la carte.…

Welcome to the Wiki for users of SimSig. We are trying to write a series of up-to-date documents to help new and existing users of the software do things better (amongst other things). Please contribute to this Wiki: it is only as good as you make it. While developers try to complete the Wiki in a way that is simple to understand, sometimes we don't achieve it fully and that's where we need your help. If you see a description of something and don't understand it, or think you can explain it bett…
