TOPIC: Idiots Manual Guide Please!!!

Idiots Manual Guide Please!!! 22 Jan 2012 20:50 #1

Hi

ive downloaded the trial version as i am considering buying a version but i am having real trouble getting the trial to work for me!!!

perhaps someone could give me a real idiots guide to what i need to know and do?!

i cant seem to take control of any trains!
the sim seems to run but the trains all seem to be running to predetermined routes no matter when i try to intervene???!!!

i get the principle of finding out where a train needs to go, which track out of waterloo etc and the idea of having to set a route but exactly what do i have to click on to set a route, how do i know its the right route???

i know this is pretty basic stuff but i just cant get it to function properly, unless the trial version does not allow you to take control as it were???

also, what does the flashing white track mean when you click on a signal?

hope you can help

cheers
kevin

Hi Kevin.

There are no trial versions - all simulations (afaik) are provided in full for free. Users are encouraged to donate, though :D

The white flashing track when you click on a signal is just confirming that the signal has been clicked. It is not involved in routing trains.

The best way to start is on an easy simulation such as Royston. See here for setting a simple route, it should help.

Hope this helps a little, and although it will seem a bit daunting at first, it quickly becomes easier. :)

(Oh and one other thing - once you've you've got the hang of the basic route setting, it would be wise to read the other topics)

(I take it you've downloaded Waterloo) Waterloo has ARS (Automatic Route Setting), so the Simulation will set routes for trains at the apropriate time. ARS is split into sub-areas, which are the pink labels. To disable a certain sub-area, right-click the pink circle under the label.

For what it's worth, I've nearly finished an idiot's guide for Royston, being a former idiot myself. Bear with me and it should be completed by the end of this week.
If it's green or it wriggles, it's biology.
If it's smelly or explosive, it's chemistry.
If it doesn't work, it's because there's no route between selected signals.
