mackeral1234: KX closes at 2330
arabianights: seems to be working again!
arabianights: feel free to spend a couple of minutes laughing at first world problems like this: «link»
arabianights: hence we've been waiting for 15 minutes now
arabianights: but also the game pauses when anyone connects or tries to!
arabianights: yeah, AIUI anyway
AndyB: ah, so he has to approve connections?
arabianights: I dunno the details I've never hosted anything
arabianights: him being on the phone just means he isn't watching what's going on
arabianights: it has also led to the game being paused for everyone else
arabianights: you have to click something when people appear
arabianights: cause apparently as a host
AndyB: ... really silly question, but how does being on the phone affect connections in these days of microfilters?
arabianights: it ain't unreasonable for someone new to not know that being on phone would cause problems imo, I know I wouldn't know that
arabianights: we (as in everyone apart from mick) have decided to take a break till 20 past
arabianights: andy mick is on phone I would think connections will be working in a wee bit
AndyB: Mick, connections timing out
Roadrunner: Mick-you need to pay attention to KX or close the game.
arabianights: mick if you can see this but not the sim you need to do something...
arabianights: more needed hurry up!
arabianights: spank you very much
mackeral1234: Kings Cross - 2012 starts 2030GMT connection now

In my opinion Oxted would be a good one to try next. Small amounts of shunting, train regulation, terminating trains, and a few UWCs to get the hang of (but I believe you can turn the amount of calls from them to a minimum, if not off altogether).

Thanks again, sorry I did not mean Royston was not real, I am using it has a tutorial but just fancied another easy route. Downloaded Oxted but not tried it yet. Wish me luck ;)

Bill, as the developer of Oxted you need to make sure you have got the correct timetable, the one that is supplied with the sim has got a rogue train that terminates at Sanderstead, there is a corrected version on the forum.

Thanks Paul, glad I found out before I got too far into it. Could you please tell me the name of timetable, I found one by JC which is 1993 but not sure if it is the correct one.
A link would be a great help for a dummy like me  .

Bill,
Think this is what you need - www.simsig.co.uk/index.php?option=com_re...func=fileinfo&id=331

extract/copy the WTT and WTR files into the Oxted folder (where the default TT should be)

Thanks Andy, just downloaded. I hope it is a gentle timetable for a beginner like me.

Beaten too it. There are one or two small issues that were found as a result of other users running Oxted. It may be worth having a look at the manual here www.simsig.co.uk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=usertrack:mans:oxted

You may find that the banner repeators do some rather strange things, these are known about and they will not affect the trains in anyway. In the mean time I hope you enjoy the sim :)

Re: Real old newbie 03 Apr 2012 23:30 #28

Thanks Paul, already got the manual and read it earlier. Pity is is not more like a tutorial for me as the only route I have played so far is Royston, checking the tutorial as I go along  .
Just hope I can have a good go at Oxted. I think I may be shouting for help along the way.

That's what the rest of us are here for =) (although I'm out pulling levers the rest of the day but no doubt someone will come along with a solution at some point!)

Good luck!!

Don't worry! The principles of operating Royston apply everywhere else. Just make sure you read the 'Simulation Operation' page in the Oxted user manual, which explains how to operate the features specific to Oxted.
