Hi guys,

As you may know, I released The Fiddle Yard a couple of years ago in an attempt to allow people to organise their SimSig sims on their computer, and potentially (auto)update the sims if a new version were to be released.

The program never really got to where I wanted, and detecting the simulations turned into a bit of a farce using VB6, especially the newer ones.

So, from now I am resigned to the fact that the version currently available in the Downloads folder will be the last version I shall release.

If there's any real demand for such a program, I may consider creating a newer version from scratch in the far more versatile VB.NET language. If I do decide to create a newer version, then a beta version will be available from www.turbinesoftware.info before the stable release is uploaded to SimSig.

Thanks for your support with this program, and let me know how you feel about this.

Thanks for the update Manadude. I use The Fiddle Yard to launch the various Simsig sims covered by it. I'm sorry to hear that it won't be developed any further ATM as it's a great little front end, but, having crossed swords with VB myself in the past I can understand why you gave up with it.

Word on the street is that VB.NET is much more flexible & versatile, but I can't say as I gave up programming some years ago as it became something of an obsession; and the repeated late nights/early mornings spent poring over program listings looking for bugs/improving the program were proving highly detrimental to my wellbeing! Please do keep up the good work with The Fiddle Yard using VB.NET - but only as you feel able. Please don't fall into the trap I fell into - nothing's worth it!

Good luck!
OOS

I can't help but notice that it's under the GPL, however there's no link to source anywhere and no mention of the GPL in the zip file or the CAB file inside.

I was pondering investigating porting it to .Net, but would like to see what sort of things it did and how it did them!

True, the program was under GPL, but it no longer is and this applies to versions already downloaded.

Source code is not available as I can't find it.

I will be re-creating the program from scratch. I don't know how long this will take but I'll keep you updated.

The new version will not be open source.
