TeamSpeak 3 For Simsig
Introduction
A small group of forum users used to use Skype to talk during multiplayer games. The numbers grew and grew and we eventually outgrew Skype. Teamspeak 3 is a VOIP service which allows a person to host a voice server 24/7 to allow users to talk. And that is what I do, so 24/7 there is a Teamspeak 3 server that you can join to talk to fellow simsig players around the world. Whether it's to communicate during a multiplayer game, discuss timetabling or just for general chat.
Updates about the server status will be placed at the end of this thread. Including planned downtime or other subjects.
How to Join
Go to
HERE and download the client applicable to your system. Install the client and then load it up. Click connections then fill in the boxes as follows.
Address : ts.simsig-uk.net
Port :
10028 now 9987
Nickname : [Either your forum name, or your real name]
Server Password : [Leave this blank, the server does not require a password]
Then click connect. You'll be put into "The Lobby" channel. From here you can access the other channels available.
The Channels
The lobby
This is the channel where you are placed when you connect to the server each time. That is all it is a welcome channel, please move to General Chat to talk to others, and leave the lobby free for connections.
General Chat [DEFCON X]
General chat is exactly what it says on the tin, use this to talk to other users for general things that don't relate to Simsig or OTTD. Ignore the DEFCON part of the channel name, it's a running joke between some of the founding members, the DEFCON number does change from time to time.
SimSig
Under the SimSig channel are the other channels which relate to SimSig. Most of the simulations have there own channel for use during multiplayer games. There is a Control channel for use during large games or chain games. And at the bottom is a channel for timetable discussions for when you want to vent your timetabling frustrations.
Open TTD
Use this channel for discussion about Open Transport Tycoon Deleuxe. Or as it's otherwise known Sam's house.
AFK
If you want to go "Away from Keyboard" but want to remain logged into the server just move to this channel. You can't actually talk in this channel.
The Star System
Each channel has a colored star next to it's name. The stars each have a meaning which is outlined below. They basically relate to who can do what in each channel
Green
Anyone can talk in these channels, they can be used by people who are not "registered" on the server. So you may occasionally find people who are not Simsig users in these channels.
Orange
To be able to talk in these channels you must be a "registered user" on the server. To become a registered user you need to speak to one of the admins (List lower down this post) they will simply make you a "registered user", you don't need to do anything else. Once you are a "registered user" you can talk in any of the orange channels.
Black
Black means that you need special permissions to talk in these channels
Control!
To be able to talk in this channel an admin needs to make you a "Control" user. This works the same as becoming a registered user.
Admins
The following people are admins on the teamspeak server. They have the ability to change your user level, as well as remove unruly people. They can also answer technical questions about teamspeak.
- Karl - Headshot119
- Alan - Agilchrist
- John - MELD
