UKTrainMan: Hmmm. You may want to take a screenshot and post it in a new thread on the forum.
RobertoHickachini: But they don't move if the path is clear and it is time to go :/
UKTrainMan: As with many timetables, it may take some time for trains to begin to populate the simulation - although with Llangollen it is only a heritage line so may not see that much in the way of trains in some timetables. However, with the latest core code in use, many simulations should now be able to have trains timetabled in to 'seed' in from the start to populate the area immediately.
RobertoHickachini: Because every timetable that I have played on there haven't worked or take ages before a train moves and I get to bored before it moves so I leave
UKTrainMan: How do you mean "works"??
RobertoHickachini: Cant someone make a Llangollen timetable that works?

Western Chain Melksham Route 18 Apr 2012 13:06 #1

I'm afraid I've had this problem before and I still can't work out why.

I have SwinDid chained to Westbury which is in turn chained to Exeter with the 2011 Tours and Diversions timetable. All seems fine but I've just sent the first train of the day to Swindon via the Melksham route but now the route won't clear to permit anything to come the other way as the route in the up direction appears to be partially set. As a result if I request the slot from SwinDid to Westbury - at the Westbury end I'm told I can't give it because of conflicting route locking.

Any thoughts much appreciated. Nick

Have you set, and then cancelled, a route over the line, or done anything with the Incident Control Panel on the shared track? I think that can 'break' the slot system.

I didn't do anything like that pre-incident. I've tried setting the route on the up Melksham then cancelling it but it still leaves those sections of track and the up arrow lit white.

You don't request a slot at the Wesbury end, which I believe is what you have done.

If both sims are chained and you do this it locks the route from Chipenham to Bradford junction and there is no way to clear it.

You should only press the slot on Westbury if Swindid have already requested it.

I became aware of this fairly recently and have not investigated it yet but someone told me it was a core code issue - I can't say for sure. I do not recall it from testing prior to release though.

I have re-run this a number of times varying whether Westbury chains first to SwinDid or vice versa and each time the first train to be sent up Melksham to Swindon (no slot requested from Westbury) leaves the route open to traffic only in that direction and it's impossible to send anything Swindon to Westbury.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else can make this work. Perhaps I am chaining incorrectly or there is a bigger issue as Peter suggests.

Thanks for all the help so far.

As Peter says, there is an issue, possibly in the core code, so this will not work as it should do. There might be a way to do this by passing signals at danger from one sim to the other as a temporary measure, but I don't know if this would work...
That wasn't incorrect regulation - that was editing the timetable!

Peter, in the old way of chaining* there was an issue with the fact that at Melksham the route changes from up to down. Trains were not always correctly transported over to the next sim due to that. Maybe this bug was not squashed propperly, even though the chaining code got changed? I know we needed quite a few revisions before Westbury, Bristol and Swindid communicated as intended.

*I mean the way it was done 3 years ago or so, in the previous version of westbury

My current thinking is that it's to do with the dispayed TC being a combined TC (of 4 underlying ones) and in this case 1 belongs to Swindon and 3 to Westbury. I think Howard has done a bit more exploration of this.
It's difficult to test at the moment till Geoff gets up and running again as the files are on the server.

The actual crossing of trains seems OK.

Peter:

I have indeed done some more testing on this, and have a possible work round atm. Will have to make sure then I shall let you know if it works. :D
