I have been a long time Norton User and I have never had any issues with it.
You'll find that most of us who work or have an interest in the Computing world won't give anytime of day to Norton.

Although I agree with Sacro's message, in my opinion some AV is better than no AV.
In my opinion too, and given the choice between a paid copy of Norton (even if it was given as a free gift, or I was paid its value to use it), and something genuinely offered for free, I'd pick the non-Norton solution everytime! (Unless it was McAffee, then I'd have to think about it)
I have used it for at least 10 yrs and in that time never had any issues with it, I have never once had any virus.
I know each to their own and all that but in all the years I have had Norton, I have never had Norton cause any issues.

I am in the latter group. I don't find it as hungery for resources as it used to be,

Although I used to use Sophos, after it let me down I changed to Kaspersky Internet Security and although it throws up its hands in horror whenever anything new is run, if you set the detection options to "ask" once you tell Kaspersky it's a friend not a foe, Kaspersky leaves it alone - unless the program changes say when updated, then it will check to see if the program does anything insidious or nefarious: if not, it will allow the amended program to run. Kaspersky consistently gets good virus detection reviews too.

Norton gets good detection reviews too, but it's just way too paranoid and autocratic for my liking. These sorts of problem are not at all uncommon with Norton (sorry Symantec) Anti Virus.

As an ex. network engineer, if ever I saw Norton on a PC where a piece of legit software was doing strange things, most often the problem would go away once Norton AV had been fully uninstalled.

Now if only getting Novell Netware (whatever happened to that?) to run batch files properly was that easy - but that's as they say, another story! B)

A lots got to do with what system you are running on your computer and how you have set it up for virus detection.

Having the same problems as decribed above. Just unistalled Norton and paid £29.99 for Bit Defender.. still failing to connect to server.

Any other ideas? I've just spent £14.95 so don't want to give up!

I get the "failed to connect to server" message as well at the moment, and it worked alright last night. I know Geoff is aware as there was another user with license manager issues earlier today, so there might currently be work in progress on the system.

I would suggest trying again later tonight or tomorrow. Maybe someone can post a reply here if and when they can successfully log on? at least you'll know whether it's the server or a local issue.

I get the same.Manager was working OK until the update.

I am just gonna ask if those that are now having issues getting into license manger, how you applied the update whether you done it via the loader or downloaded the installation files from the download section and ran the installer to update it.

I ask as I updated via the loader and I can get into the license manger ok.

From what I have seen (this is from observations from forum posts) users who has/had loader/updater of 4.5.8.1 (this is the version that had the bug where on checking for updates SimSigloader.exe did not close, so as a result SimSigRefresher.exe cannot update the SimSigloader.exe as it is still in use) are having to install from from scratch and a new user who installed as having no previous version.

This may help the developers find the issue and be able to resolve

Thanks Mark but I've just identified and fixed the problem, and will ask a few people to test before releasing. Slap the developer (that would be me) for leaving debug code in that misdirected the URL. <hangs head in shame>

The updated license manager wasn't actually included in the update which is why some people didn't have problems.

Temporarily I have uploaded the older version (V4.1) of the License Manager here: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/SimSigUpdate/files/SimSigLicense.exe - place into your Program Files (x86)\SimSig folder. I appreciate this may not be an easy thing to do for everybody so can I ask that you be patient while I get the fix tested. Thanks and apologies.

No prob GeoffM, I had no issues, but from what I was seeing those that installed from the file downloaded from site ie: new install were the ones having problems.
