Can I possibly continue without removing trains? 26/05/2020 at 10:44 #127127

Have any of you experienced players run this timetable to the very end without going mad?
A couple of days ago I thought that I would try something a little bit different, so I started the “Westbury Fictional Winter 2009 – Diversion mayhem” timetable.
It was all going smoothly for a time, just the odd delays here and there, which is obviously what I expected.
However, I’ve got to just after 10.00am and am now faced with multiple trains trying to go to and from Thingley Junction and now with 2 coming from Thingley Junction in quick succession, I can’t route any the other way. This is resulting in a large number of trains clogging things up.

Is it possible to continue without removing any trains, or have I got to bite the bullet and do just that?

I have attached a save for those interested in my current situation 😊

Hi,

i have taken a look at this. With the diversions going on this is a very challenging timetable. as TORR is not available, it is important to release routes after any train has passed. the stand off at Bradford Junction is diffiult to manage as you can't stop trains enetering from Chippenham. I thibnk the situation that you have in the save is as a result of many previous erors in routing. I spotted two wrong routes set in the save, possibly best to start again with failures turned off.

Your comments are interesting.
I was diverting some trains via Westbury to avoid blocking the loop between Heywood and Hawkeridge Junctions, but didn't get far enough to see if it was any help.
I think that I will take your advice and start again with failures turned off.
Having said that, would you advise which two routes are incorrect. I'm struggling to see this.

I had a look at this earlier. I have got a couple of comments to make

Firstly, Timetable based, there are a number of coal trains (6Dxx) which are entering at Chippenham described as Avonmouth -> Didcot. This isn't possible unless the train has already gone past Didcot Power Station. I would be expecting to see these enter at Bathampton Junction instead. I realise this isn't your issue but does add quite a lot of traffic onto the single line.

Secondly. While Westbury has control of the single line slot, it looks like you cannot send a train towards Melksham if Swindon are sending you multiple trains in close succession. This I think is where many of your issues are coming from. I have logged this on Mantis as #30618.

Thank you James.
I had noticed that there's no control over the trains coming from Chippenham. This is indeed a problem. Being able to hold them back would be a real help

Don't worry about answering this question. I've deleted all the saved games now anyway.

I can remember that one was 2c0* which should have been routed via Frome as most of the passenger trains for Yeoil Pen Mill go vis frome.

You are right about the coal trains, I have changed my copy of the timetable, which I am running for the first time, to show entry point as Bathampton Junction and deleting Chippenham and Thingley as passing points. These are 6D** trains.

Also all the 4D** empties for Avonmouth entering via Southcote Junction need to have TTs amended to have Bathmanpton Junction as the exit point, not Thingley.
