Bristol MAS 1970, Stage 3D - TT idea... 01/05/2024 at 18:22 #156154

Greetings folks,

I am considering purchasing this booklet from 1970 which gives the timetabling arrangements for Stage 3D of the 1970 Bristol MAS Scheme. It occurs to me that it might make for an interesting timetable project for when (or if - I am starting to wonder if my home sim will ever reappear) Bristol is released.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256455090405

The booklet is 103 pages thick (!) but two points.

1. If I tried to make it into a TT what would be the chances of success? The Bristol sim had a 1980 era but would that be enough for a scheme like this? Something tells me not.

2. It seems, going by the screenshots, that timings for anywhere east of Stoke Gifford (ie. towards Yate / Chipping Sodbury) or over towards Pilning would not be included. If they were not then would there be any means of getting the relevant likely timing points? And also what of traction information (settings for SimSig and unit allocations)?

The item has been listed once and failed to sell so I guess, seeing as I already have some of the Bristol MAS notices (for Stages 2, 3C, 3E, 6, 7A-7C, 8A, 9, 10 & 11) it might be worth having for completeness (along with the SNs for 3B and 3D which I see are also for sale) from another vendor.

Thoughts welcome.
Dave

Something I would love to see.

Hopefully our SimSig overlords will add the option for eras into the sim as with others?

If it came off I think it would be quite popular but it is a case of getting the timings for stuff through Chipping Sodbury and Yate and that is why I am unsure if the idea would work or not.

I'm sure some artistic license wouldn't be frowned upon by the SimSig community!

From what's been posted previously, there's an era for the original version of the Filton Bank 4-tracking which was removed in 1984. No idea if said layout will be accurate (or near enough) as far back as 1970 though.

There were quite a few layout alterations between when the last bits of the panel opened and around 1977. I don't recall all of the differences, and although the overarching layout remained similar, was a lot of bits like ground frames were removed, point work and junctions modified.
