Registration for the Meet

If you wish to attend the meet, could you please register using the link available from Future Events section of the SimSig web-site. It is important that people register even though there is no charge for the event so that we can advise the venue of the likely numbers attending. This will enable them to plan their catering accordingly.

How To Get There

Train

Derby is served from various parts of the country by CrossCountry trains . A direct service is available from London on the Midland Main Line, provided by East Midlands Trains . Lots of local services mean access from other cities is easy. The pub is a 15 to 20 minute walk from the railway station; suggested routes are shown in the Google Earth clip below. For those who do not wish to walk that distance, board a bus at Stop S1 opposite the station entrance to the City Bus Station at Morledge. The venue is then a 5-minute walk over the Derwent Bridge.

Bus

The Tap is a 5-minute walk from the main Bus Station in Derby which is served by local services from all parts of the City. The Bus Station can be seen just above and to the right of "The Derby Ram Statue" text in the Google Earth clip below.

Coach

Coaches operated by National Express coaches use the new Riverlights bus station, so proceed as for local buses above. The local buses to the meet go from the same building.

Car

There is on street parking around the pub but it is limited to 4hours maximum. There are long stay car parks around Derby if required.

Walking

Venue location

The Tap at the top left and the Railway Station at the bottom right. Walking routes are marked with Google's preferred route shown with blue dots.

Facilities and Venue Details

Food

Food is not being provided at this meet, but The Tap has a bar menu which can be viewed on its website .

Drink

WiFi

A Wifi network without internet access will be set up so that the multiplay of the sims being used can take place. The venue has free WiFi available for those requiring internet access.

Room Layout

We will have use of the two upstairs rooms (the Arc Room and the Royal Room) which are across the passage from each other. The pictures below show the Arc Room, the Royal Room and the main downstairs bar.

Those without laptops, please wait until noon when (hopefully) everything will be ready.

Entrance Fee

Shared access to multiplayer simulations.

Where To Stay

The Smart Aston Court Hotel is very close to the railway station and a 15-minute walk from the venue. TripAdvisor Reviews

The Hallmark Inn is a short distance further than the Aston Court. TripAdvisor Reviews .

The Alexandra which is a pub you pass between the Railway Station and the venue is currently offering rooms at "from £30 pppn". TripAdvisor Reviews (although they tend to concentrate on the pub side of things rather than the accommodation).

Please offer other recommendations if you know of further suitable accommodation.

Friday night

Please offer recommendations. Previous years have included a meal at a Mexican restaurant followed by drinks at one or more local pubs.

Saturday night

The Everest usually benefits from several hungry SimSiggers seeking a post-meeting curry.

Sunday

There is no visit arranged to date.

What actually happened

Despite the travel difficulties caused by the extreme weather on the Friday before the meet and the usual over-playing of the problems by the media, 16 people managed to find their way to The Tap (including travellers from London who reported on-time journeys on half-empty trains). You can see most of those who managed to make the trip below.

Simulations In Use

The kit for the meet was set up in the Arc Room and those attending were given the choice of taking part in a multiplay of the Hong Kong sim previously released by Clive or trying out a beta version of the new Three Bridges sim. All involved seemed to be suitably impressed with both sims. There was a good session of nearly five hours of sim time so everything got a good work out. Overview of the Three Bridges sim below:

The Tap

The venue worked well for us and the kitchen dealt with all of the requests put forward by a hungry set of SimSiggers. After the meet, several of the group went off for a curry. More details will be provided by one of those in that party.
