The next SimSig meet will take place on Saturday 16th June 2018, at Ribble Steam Railway, Chain Caul Road, Preston, PR2 2PD. Full details on the Wiki.

If you wish to attend, please register using this link from the Upcoming Events section of the web-site.

You will note we have taken a slight departure from the usual schedule of holding a meet in July. This was in part to prevent a clash for people wishing to attend the Australian meet, and we also have some tentative plans for a small meet in September as well.

On the day of the meet Ribble Steam Railway is holding a beer and cider festival, and a free bus will be running from Preston station, to the venue throughout the day. Entry to SimSig members registered at least 24 hours before the meet will be free of charge, and will include the ability to ride on the train services on the day. Beer tokens will be available to purchase in advance of the event, or can be bought on the day.

Depending on final circumstances, the meet itself will either be held in a vintage MK1 carriage, or on the museums new mezzanine room overlooking the museum hall.

If you do register for the event and are then unable to attend, please go back the Events page and cancel your registration. If you do not cancel, someone else wishing to attend may be told that the meet is already fully booked.

If you want to follow the range of beers and ciders as they are released check out the Facebook event https://www.facebook.com/events/207526213351664/

Update 25th May

Preston and Warrington will be the two meet simulations. Manchester Piccadilly may join the fray, or a third totally separate simulation may feature.

The free vintage bus will run 11:00 - 22:00 on the hour from Preston Station to the railway.
11:30 - 22:30 on the half hour from the railway to Preston Station.

Ideal location for a meet, I will be there from just 12ish. It will be nice to put faces to the names of people on here. Since there isn't a speculation page yet 'Wonder it had to be Preston themed sim?'... See you all there.

I'll think of you all while I'm spending a day on the Glacier Express (but I bet the beer will be cheaper in Preston)!

Anyone travelling a long distance to the Meet should be aware that while Advance tickets for 16th June would normally become available in a week or so, a series of Network Rail-related farces means that the May 2018 TT hasn't been finalised yet. Therefore, operators are wary of releasing cheap advances, particularly at the weekend.

That aside, I might actually be able to make this one, hopefully!

Sounds like a great day out. Unfortunately, I will be at a gig at the O2 in London so won't be there.

I have been wondering that myself as I seem to recall there has been a good degree of demand for one. I am not in the know though and won't be able to make the meet anyway as I live in Bristol which is well south of Preston.

As for a speculation page I have no doubt that one will open in due course a bit closer to the meet.

Also another clue Postal was looking for 2009 WTT called CZ03/CE02? I think before the post itself was removed.
Section CZ03 BALSHAW LANE TO GRETNA JN Freight/Departmental and Section CE02 BALSHAW LANE TO GRETNA JN Passenger/ECS in between is Preston & Carlisle PSB. I'm likely thinking this is either Preston PSB Sim or the finally Carlisle on Loader and Postal was maybe wanting to update the 2009 timetable at Carlisle who knows.. let's leave it to them and let them surprise us, really am looking forward to it.

PS Sorry Postal if I used your name here as I was trying to put 1 and 1 together :-).

Or maybe I was just checking out the handover for trains to/from the Motherwell sim for a 2009 TT along with the supplied 2006 TT. Or maybe there's a new Cumbrian Coast sim on the way that needed a bit of research. Or maybe there's a new G&SW sim on the way which again needed the handovers checking. Or maybe it was checking the consistency of the coal and empties TTs to/from the various Ayrshire loading points for a 2009 Paisley TT.

Anyway, back to the TT I am currently trying to get into suitable state for release. . . .

I would love to attend as its just one train journey for me from Liverpool, but with no information regarding what is going on during the works 2nd June - 29th July I can't yet say if I will be there or not :-(
Be good if I could attend as this is the closest meet to me, if I don't attend I hope you all have a jolly good time :-)

Do note that the Sunday 17th is Father's Day (in the UK at least) so make sure you aren't going to get in trouble if you're travelling from afar.

Can strongly vouch for the RSR which I visited a couple of times during my university career in the city (8-11 years ago!). Many an hour chasing shots of the Lindsey tanks crossing Strand Road and exchanging with the RSR diesel, and also the Saturday round trips crossing the shared road/rail swing bridge at the docks.

The railway is a great visit and the staff are very friendly. I got a personal tour of their works as it was a quiet day. The operational side has a number of interesting elements, too.

I won’t be able to make it, sadly, but will certainly be looking out for a, er, “local” sim!

May WTT should be out shortly! :-)

Looking forward to this, only a half-hour drive for me!

Laptop will be coming with me to the event!

If anything happens to stop you attending, could you please remember to go back to the sign-up page and cancel your registration so that Karl can keep track of numbers.

Would anyone mind just confirming an End time to the event? I see it says 1700 on the event page, again just to confirm.

I messed up my roster planning and ain't longweekend (Still managed to get Saturday off, but have a booked Sunday) It's not a late night thing and we Scots can get home. ;-)

The "main" meet will finish at 17:00. The usual after meet meal will take place, which will probably be some sort of takeaway on the train.
