Trains changing direction for no apparent reason 18/03/2017 at 12:15 #93710

Hi all,

Enjoying getting into the LTS sim as it's as close to my local area as SimSig will get.

However, I wonder if anyone can help me with the following... I'm using the default timetable.

I'm running the sim fully ARS as there were a few delays around and I wanted to concentrate on dealing with those.

I then noticed that 2B04 (0540 Fenchurch St - Shoeburyness)had switched from its correct down direction to facing up at Upminster - and again just now at West Horndon. In previous saves I've also had other trains do this, causing a fairly hefty delay by the third or fourth time it does this!

Any ideas?

The save file is attached.

Cheers,
Joe

This happened to me too yesterday, with a section failure across Pitsea P3.

I had to cross 2D70 over at Stanford-Le-Hope (West Jn) to use P1 and talk it through to Pitsea P4. I had updated live timetable before the move.

When it got to Pitsea P4 I set the shunt onto DML, all fine. but then the train complained about waiting on red, I realised he'd changed direction! Manuallay reversed, all OK...

...until he got to Benfleet, at which point he'd changed ends again and complained about another red (though ARS had set the down route) so a second change of ends was required.

Need to know what scenario you selected. The problems did not seem to occur in Easy mode.

Joe, your ssg was saved in Loader version 4.5.13! Please start the sim again using the latest version of the Loader and timetable and let us know of any problems.

Joe’s post was nearly 18 months ago, I forget the release dates but it’s plausible that 4.5.13 was latest version at the time of posting.

Thanks Barry,

Mine occurred on LTS SX 08042015 0000 in Normal mode.

Will try to reproduce as I didn't capture it as a save :)

Hi,

So I tried to reproduce exactly the same situation and I've attached two files:
1 - 2D70 approaching Stanford, with updated platforms in TT. However, as soon as train reaches divergent signal, it still complains about wrong route, and wants me to bypass both Stanford and Pitsea, disregaring new platform numbers.
2 - Having talked 2D70 through Stanford, and bypassed Stanford and Pitsea via wrong-way working, ARS comes back on as it joins Down Main. Stops at Benfleet fine, but when it gets to Leigh it complains about a red signal. Driver has changed ends and I have to tell him to walk back down and go the right way. I didn't think it was going to happen again or I would have saved a couple minutes earlier -sorry!

Normal mode no L/C.

Thanks
Jamie

From your save the reason it calls wrong route at the signal to goto P1 at Stanford-Le-Hope is because you cannot Validate a route to Pitsea from P1 at Stanford-Le-Hope therefore it will call wrong route, It wouldn't matter if you have change the Platform to P1 as it is also looking for routes towards Pitsea.

If you had momentarly Abondoned the timetable to get it passed signal 717 and then reinstating it after it had passed the signal (this is the unaltered timetable for the train) the train would of happily proceded, towards Pitsea after you had also talked him passed signal 925. and on arrival at Pitsea once you had set the route from 1031 to 279 2D70 would of proceded happily to Shoeburyness

From what Mark wrote in the Mantis ticket, I understand both trains in question had invalid timetables from user modification and thus it's not surprising things didn't go so well.

Fair point about wrong route call, although it seems you can validate Stanford P1 to Pitsea P3.

Having picked up the timetable and already made the scheduled stop at Benfleet, and with ARS correctly setting DM route at Leigh, I was still surprised the train changed end though. Although LOS is a change in ARS subareas.

One of the locations in your edit, is making the train want to reverse, the train stops at Benfleet and reverses as one of the locations in your edited TT wants/requires the train to, ARS will continue to route the train per the original TT as ARS does not get updated on editing the timetable with a train in sim, That warning message you get when you edit a timetable in F2 after you have edited a timetable and clicked ok "Driver has been made aware, but ARS may not route correctly" (something to that effect).
