I had an e-mail from Karl last week. The relevant bits are:

John,

Just an FYI John, the current plan for the London meet in November is to use the following sims . . . .

. . . . is brand new and will give a nice chain.

--
Thanks Karl

Hmmm I had also thought of the Cornwall tip but as that's already been said...

I think you can end up going in circles justifying reasons why it'll be this or that, so I'll just plump for Basingstoke

The Walrus and the Carpenter is a Nicholson's pub. For those who want to take advantage, there is a Nicholson's Pub app available on Google Play and the App Store. Supposedly this allows you to claim your first pint or G&T for £1 after registering then a discount of 25p per pint of cask ale after that. You can also set up a tab from your phone. I've no idea whether it allows you to order like the Wetherspoon's app but we'll find out in a couple of weeks.

Okay although I can't make it I would say my three guesses are:

Woking/Eastleigh
Cambrian Lines
Colchester/Norwich

As they are areas to my knowledge that are not yet covered by any simulation released or in development that can chain to existing released sims.

Cambrian lines sound like a nice small sim, at least in terms of traffic.

Colchester / Norwich would be in the one sim as it's all controlled from Colchester ASC.

Liverpool Street (GEML) and Colchester would give you the whole of the line...

I'll go with Colchester and Anglia boxes (Sheringham, Lowestoft and Yarmouth).

Or Colchester and Saxmundham (controls the East Suffolk Line towards Lowestoft).

One can dream!

They look to have a very nice range of gin and whisky too

I know Preston/Warrington are in development as are the others mentioned.

Good point. Now I think of it I wonder if it could be Preston, especially in view of this...

.... and that bit I have put in bold text leads me to realise that Preston would make a good candidate for the brand new sim and it would indeed give a nice chain by linking to the sims for Carlisle (via. Carnforth North Jcn, signal CE4 on Carlisle sim) and Manchester Pic (for which the boundary would, I assume, be Sough Tunnel on MP sim, with Preston's entry signal - if I read the Entwhistle line of the ManPic sim right by clicking on the signal in question - being PN468). There is your nice chain, and a very large one it would be too.

I will therefore guess either Doncaster PSB or Preston PSB but I will be happy with whatever comes along.

Except that Karl said the sim hasn't been discussed before, and Preston was previewed at the Preston meet...

Not quite. He did once put this in an earlier post on this thread:

To the best of my knowledge the simulation in question has never been openly discussed on the forum.

Seeing as we know that Preston is in development I wouldn't mind a sim to cover the Blackpool layout (scenarios being the old AB system with the individual boxes, and the new setup as a workstation instead of panels) to go with it.

Regarding Preston, was a full screenshot of the layout posted? I'd be interested in looking at one seeing as the Preston meet was a while ago now.

I can't give details out but I don't think its Preston nor Warrington as there both still in development.
If it was Preston then the 3rd chain would be Warrington. Carlisle/Manchester Piccadilly & Warrington - 3 Chain etc.
So moving on Preston/Warrington was well mentioned back at the Preston meet and was well formed on the forums too as Karl mentioned just before.

As for Doncaster that's another sim guess but I think that was touched on a few months back but nothing detailed.. Meanwhile what about Leicester area?

A very poor image I posted on the forum on Preston I posted a while back admitting it was only Preston station and 2010 era.

I have a new theory regarding the mystery sim: Chester. It would provide the stated chain (NWC-Chester-NE Wales).

Maybe it will be a 'Cumbrian Coast' simulation which would chain to Carlisle (Released Simulation) at Wigton and Preston (Development Simulation previewed at Preston Meet) at Carnforth.

While it wouldn't be the busiest of simulations there is an interesting mix of Double & Single Line working, Freight Traffic to and from Sellafield and traffic to/from West Coast Railways base at Carnforth.

A quick reminder that we are now only a week away from our meet at The Walrus and The Carpenter.

So far, 25 people have signed up that they intend to be present. There is plenty of room at the venue so lots of room for more to sign up (here) for an afternoon of SimSigging and general socialising at this free event. If you are a newcomer to SimSig or even an old hand that has never been to a meet, please don't be intimidated. The meet is a great opportunity to see how others work when running a panel and a good way to put faces to the names you have seen through the Forum. You will also get the chance to work a panel on a previously unseen sim if you want. Even if you don't want to expose your skills (or lack of them) to the others present, there is plenty of opportunity just to sit and chat with fellow SimSiggers.

Time and again, people attend for the first time feeling nervous and apprehensive but go away at the end of the afternoon (or even go on for the traditional curry) having been made to feel welcome and having enjoyed a good afternoon so what is there to lose by signing up to meet many of your fellow players.

Just to throw another two ideas out there for the meet sim:

Madeley junction (and others) to link Wolverhampton and shrewsbury

Marston Vale to link Rugby and West Hamps.

I've been sent the following image as a hint of the new simulation that will be in use on Saturday...

Pretty sure it isn't anywhere I sign!

(but considering the only bits of my route card that SimSig shortly won't cover are Stoke-on-Trent box, Crewe Station and Edgeley 1 to Chester that is pretty easy to work out!)

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

Hmm, is this an historic layout, or not quite the current one? I have an idea of a place that could match.

That's part of the fun of guessing! I beleive it's the current layout.
