I have had a quick look through the License Manager posts on the Forum but can't see an answer to my question, which is:

If a family member was to purchase a simulation as a Christmas gift for me, how would the License be allocated to my computer?

Sorry if I've missed the obvious.

Thank in advance

The shop doesn't directly support gift giving. We can in limited circumstances arrange for a license to be transferred between accounts.

It would remove the surprise element but the sim could be bought through the end-users account with the gifter handing over the cost to the end-user.

For the future, perhaps some sort of gift-voucher scheme where someone who is not registered can buy a voucher code to pass on as a gift?

You can donate unused licenses. Go to https://www.SimSig.co.uk/License/MyLicenses and beside unused licenses you'll see a link called "donate". By "unused" I mean never allocated to any machine.

This year the family has decided to do a "Secret Santa" present buying thing. This is to reduce overspending(which can easily get out of hand) and avoid anybody receiving an unwanted present, which has happened frequently in the past.

It looks as though I will unfortunately have to ask for the cash as you have said. I've had to do this in the past.
A voucher system, which you suggest, would have been ideal in this case.

Would this idea be possible in the future.

I look forward to any comments.

I have just looked at the link above.
This is what I can do.

One point though. I notice that the Edinburgh and Tyeneside IECC Licenses "used" box has not been ticked. I have used both of these sims and when I look at my License Manager both are allocated to my laptop.
Something seems to be amiss.

Headshot119. They crossed. Geoff posted as I was typing.

The use feature was introduced recently (Date uncertain), so if you allocated license prior to that it won't always shows as used.

Good idea. It would need the gifter to register before purchasing but not an insuperable obstacle.

Could a link be added (maybe under Home or Products) to link to the Licenses page rather than having to type in the URL (or is a link already there and I'm missing it)?

[EDIT] Doh! Once I looked under My Account, there it was.

Yes, to be specific: My Account (left sidebar or top drop-down menu under your name), then My Licenses.

Unless mistaken I can see a problem here.

Wouldn't the person buying the simulation have to open a SimSig account from which to donate the license in question?

Yes, but as Postal says, it's not an insuperable obstacle. The two of you could play multiplayer!

You don't know the people that I'm dealing with here :D

I think that I'll stick to the cash idea. At least I won't get endless emails asking questions like "How do I do that" or "What do I do next"
Although that could be rather funny I suppose.

I think Postal's suggestion of gift vouchers would be great. I often ask for Steam vouchers, (for DTG things), Game vouchers (to use when a PS4 game comes out I want) and now another company I use a lot (Just Trains) have started doing gift vouchers too.

Hopefully one day its something we could see here too

It isn't unusual with many retailers to have to register to purchase something. There's nothing complicated about Simsig being the same surely?
