ACOA for 6M40? 16/02/2019 at 20:56 #115773

Only a minor point, but thought that I’d mention it anyway. I’m playing the Westbury Summer 2007 v4.0 simulation, Loader 4.9 and the time is approximately 09:20.
I have looked through the Forum posts, but can’t see this problem mentioned, so wonder if it's me. (Wouldn't be the first time)

A message has just appeared in the Train List stating that 6M40 is on the telephone. A few seconds later a telephone call was received from the driver who reported an ACOA. (See screenshot.)

At first, I wasn’t sure if I had done anything wrong, so went back to a previous save (09:10) for a re-run after which I now think that the message is incorrect because in the re-run, when I set a route from signal 211 on the UP REC towards Bathampton Jn, its aspect changed from red to single yellow. In a second re-run, I thought that I would allow 6B65 to pass signal DT108, clear the route from signal 115 and then set the route for 6M40. This time signal 211 changed from a red aspect to double yellow, but the driver of 6M40 still reported an ACOA!

I have attached a saved game for those who wish to check what happened and to give me a telling off if I am at fault. Hopefully you won’t have to though.

Incidentally. I have just discovered what playing with no TORR is like and really enjoy it. Gives an added dimension.

Did you give him an ACOA before he went into the reception line?

No. He went into the Reception line without any problems.

Did you pull off for him and then put the road back before pulling off again?

Please give me a while.
I'm going right back to a save at 08:10 which shows that 6M40 is approaching Frome North Jn on its way towards Westbury.
I have seen something that might throw some light on the subject, so I want to see what happens when I run it through to 09:20.

I have resolved the issue with 6M40. It was an operator error of some kind.

In the original scenario, 6M40 was entering the Up Reception with signal 211 showing a red aspect and the signal stork was white, which according to the Wiki is a “Controlled signal with position light subsidiary aspect not currently lit”
Not quite sure what all this means, but it obviously had a bearing on the matter.

Anyway, I have re-run the sim from the 08:10 save through to 08:20 and 6M40 is approaching signal 211 which is showing a red aspect.
The difference here is the un-illuminated signal stork. I eventually got to approximately 09:20 and when I set the route for 6M40, there were no problems.
I obviously did something wrong the first time which made the stalk illuminate, and this lead to the ACOA.

Apologies for wasting your or anybody else’s time. I’ll investigate further next time!

Illumination of the signal stalk indicates that a route has been set from the signal. If the signal aspect is red, then the route will be either approach controlled, and will only clear once the train is at the signal.
Or, the route has been previously used and the route not cancelled (recently updated sims may have the signal stalk flashing in this instance, as is indicated on some NX panels in reality).

I have just continued playing the sim in order to see what you mean, but either I'm not quick enough to notice, or a similar situation hasn't arisen. This leads me to ask that if it is approach controlled and a route has been set, wouldn't that route be white in colour?

Yes, the set route will be highlighted in white for both the cases I raised.
