Hi all. I've seen a lot of simulators get their own Discord server recently where people can just chill and have a chat with other players. I think that this would be a perfect idea for SimSig as we would be able to have a dedicated server for general SimSig and train related stuff. If wanted, we can set up an announcement system for upcoming games, these can be created with custom bots. All in all I think it's a great idea and I'm happy to create one if there's demand for it. Let me know your thoughts!

Isnt that exactly why we have Teamspeak?

Indeed, but Discord has a lot more features and I feel it's more suited. This wouldn't just be SimSig related either.

Discord also has text channels too - but things stay if you log out and log in. You can also pin things in said-chats I.E rules etc!

You mean, exactly like TeamSpeak does?

It's very similar to TeamSpeak, every so often someone comes along and suggests we should have a *Insert random VOIP client server* for SimSig. We've used TeamSpeak for more years than I can remember, and no one has come up with a persuasive argument to change to something different yet.

Does teamspeak allow you to get the readback of all text channels between visits? I've not seen that ability.

Free on mobile and the app I find much nicer. Screen sharing. No app actually needed as it can run in browser. Probably a wider reach for that reason.

On windows 7 if you got to C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Roaming\TS3Client\chats you should see a folders(s), in one/some of those should be a few *.txt and htmls files they should have the channel chat and server names and they contain a log of all text chat from when you started using TS.

Private chat will only log on TS if you have enabled the option in TS to log private chat

Does it only log what the client sees when online, or will it also show the messages whilst the client was closed?

As has been said elsewhere, chats only log what you see when online. So if you log out and log back in x-amount of time later, any chat between log-off and log-on goes.

Plus Discord allows upload of images in text chat. No requirement to link images anymore when you can just post photos up.

So no, not exactly like TeamSpeak does.

ADDITIONAL: My last comment comes across as quite snobby. My apologies, this was not intended.
