[quote=clive;post=120657According to Quail, WN (Warrington PSB) takes over from WD (Winsford) at Preston Brook Tunnel (176m04-07c) and then hands over to PN (Preston) at Coppull Hall HABDs (10m60c).[/quote]
Quail sounds interesting. What is it and is there a website for it?

Hi Dave,

The Quail books are now under the TrackMaps brand: https://www.trackmaps.co.uk/trackmaps/railway-maps/railway-track-diagrams/

You can also find them on book retailer sites with jungle-related names.

Thanks
Jamie

Should this be re-titled "Simulation wish-list" rather than "Simulation speculation"?

Would it not just be easier to copy and paste the previous threat but omit posts where the sim has now been released?

It's surely time for the long-awaited Isle of Sodor sim? Of course, it will chain with the also inevitable Cumbrian Coast sim at Barrow:

Not to mention backing-up signals.

Reminds me of this gem somebody (unfortunately I can't remember who) had posted on one of the old forums in reply to a request for trains to fail if they're held too long at a red signal:

Quote:
Henry the Green Engine was miserable. He had been standing at a red signal for twenty minutes, and each time his driver had braved the elements to go to that little grey box by the signal post, he had just kept getting fobbed off and being told to ring back again in another five minutes.

He had not enjoyed his trip to the Sim Railway. Instead of proper signals with arms, all they seemed to have were these funny things that looked like upside down traffic lights, except they could also display things like two yellows at the same time, and sometimes the lights even flashed. How distracting, he thought, that must be to his poor driver and fireman.

He also missed the frequent signalboxes that the Fat Controller's railway had, where the signalmen would usually give him a friendly wave as he sped past. It had taken a while at first for him to have it drummed into a head that if a signalman held out a green flag he usually had to slow down - it was some kind of "warning" signal - but that was years ago and he'd been happy with it, ever since.

Henry was also miffed that the signallers on the Sim railway would never be able to see his shiny new coat of paint. Someone had told him they worked in a remote building and all they would be able to see of him was a short red line on a VDU screen. "Red, indeed," Henry fumed - "they'll all think I'm James!"

There weren't even any tunnels where he could go and hide (although, he realised on reflection, they didn't seem to have any rain, either).

But here he was still waiting at that stupid traffic light thing, and getting more and more wound up moment by moment.

Suddenly, there was a huge, whooshing hiss and he felt a complete loss of breath. Silly engine, he'd let himself get so upset that his safety valve had blown out. Oh dear, how would they get him back to the engine shed? Where even was the nearest one on that hellishly impersonal railway he was visting?

Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

Seeing as it's not one that's been done (even within the area of it!) I'm hoping for Crewe up to Preston or within that area, could chain up to the Edge Hill sim, Stafford and then Rugby sims to make a huge chain. It's got plenty of TT variety and opportunities.

Well Bethnal Green to Colchester might be nice to see equally Glasgow Central which would’ve able to chain with Motherwell and finally Woking/Basingstoke to Haslemere/Eastleigh or Eastleigh PSB?

I have checked the runes, tortured a few developers and I am fairly sure that the new sim will be the Blackpool Tram.

Would love to see an up-to-date version of Cambridge. The layout handles a lot more services nowadays compared to when the original sim came out.

Still really hoping to see a present day era for King’s Cross. The December 2019 timetable is likely to be the last one compatible with the current layout, and even this will require some bodges to make things work. Naturally there will need to be yet another era for post KX throat remodelling.

Complete with the ability to mis-issue tickets, leading to near head-on collisions?

I'm not sure what's more concerning with this. The driver accepting the ticket or the station master issuing it.

Good point. An updated version of Cambridge would be good, incorporating not only Cambridge North but also the Ely to Norwich line (via. Shippea Hill) which I believe Cambridge PSB has controlled on a Westcad-type system since 2012. I think the answer would be to have more than one era. Pre. 2012 (minus Cambridge North and the Shippea Hill route) and post 2012 (with Cambridge North and all of the Shippea Hill route): I think Cambridge has control of the Shippea Hill route (signal prefix EN) until just the Norwich side of Wymondham?

I remember seeing an article in a railway mag on revisions to the KGX station throat layout.

I, meanwhile, am having to withdraw from the London meet due to a clash with an occasion in Westminster Abbey.

At one stage in my working life, we had a colleague who volunteered at the RH&DR. This led to the railway being known as the Romney, Hythe and Dimwit around the office.

Well, as it's a London meet and I'm moving to Norwich in a few weeks, I'm going to say either the GEML, Colchester box complete with Trowse so one can signal up to Sheringham, Saxmundham or the rural boxes on the Lowestoft / Yarmouth route.

East Anglia, basically. One day...!

Well if it's the GEML I would hope that the GEML part of Liverpool Street IECC is done as then you would have Liverpool Street to Witham with Stratford, Ilford, Shenfield & Witham panels before north of Colchester is done.

And as to the rural boxes on the Wherry lines as they're in the process of being resignalled from AB to TCB (https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/our-routes/anglia/norwich-yarmouth-lowestoft-re-signalling/) I would have thought they be managed from Colchester but that in my view any GEML sims will either be broken up as the Rugby sims are OR will be done like Three Bridges has been done.

If we want to discuss a wild card though, could we see the North London Line finished?
