I'm currently attempting to compile an Autumn timetable for Marylebone - including Railhead Treatment Trains - but I've hit a bit of a brick wall when it comes to the shunt moves the set does at the end of the day.

The RTT entry for the train in question is here.

As you can see, the train is booked to arrive into Platform 4 at Banbury, where it waits for 9 minutes for other trains to use Platforms 1 to 3. It then heads towards Fenny Compton to reverse behind signal OL1444 and enter the Down Goods Loop, where it reverses again to enter the Reservoir Sidings Neck for yet another reversal to go into the Sidings.

Unfortunately, if you enter "Banbury Reservoir Junction" followed by "Banbury Down Goods Loop" into the timetable, the train stops at signal OL3145 on the Down Cherwell Valley and the validator tells you (correctly) that there's no route between the two (or, more accurately, between Banbury and Banbury Down Goods Loop, completing ignoring the Reservoir Junction timings).

Looking through the list of locations, there doesn't appear to be anything suitable that has the desired effect. It can be fudged using the "hand of God", but that's not ideal. Such a fudge also breaks it further, as the train reaches the buffer stops of the neck and terminates there with no way of working it back into the sidings as the Ground Frame doesn't exist in the 2016 Layout as simulated.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received, though I'd prefer to avoid diverting the train into Banbury LMD instead if at all possible.

For the benefit of those unfamiliar with the layout, here's an extract showing the moves I'm trying to recreate:

The path you describe is correct and in development of that version of the sim, the *proposed* Reservoir Sidings layout changed (twice IIRC). Consequently there is no programmed path back from the buffer stops, otherwise it would've been held back for that alone.

As an aside; in the case of the aggregate freight, I usually leave it on the Down Goods with a rule to stay put for 4 hours. The sim won't easily allow a series of split/couples and set backs as the train is loaded and formed up.

If there is a preference for the RHTT to 'disappear' then a suitable path into Banbury Depot (for ad hoc fuelling(!)) might be a suitable alternative.

I thought the answer would turn out to be something like that. A trip to Banbury LMD it is then!
