Reroute trains through yards? 30/11/2019 at 00:21 #122010

I was playing LTS on hard mode. Right before morning rush hour I got a track section failure out from Down Carriage Sidings to platform 2 at Shoeburyness.
Platform 2 and 3 were blocked, but I could still use platform 1 for arriving trains.

Trains were piling up at shunt signal 1053 out from the carriage siding.

My question is. Is it somehow possible to reverse the train standing at shunt signal 1053, make it drive through the yard, and exit the siding at main signal 588 in the up direction?

When playing I assumed the trains would just disappear if I reversed the direction, so I didn't do it.

Yes, the trains will fall off the simulation. If you want to get them to enter the simulation at the London end, you'll need to edit the timetables of any trains yet to enter. For those which have already entered, remove them from the simulation and duplicate the timetable, editing the duplicate to use the London end entry point.

If a failure causes a showstopper, which effectively stops the job, I would just "fix" it with F11. It's not what happens IRL, but there isn't much point playing a simulation that just locks up.

Is this a situation where some kind of 'use other entry point' option needs to be available in F2? Perhaps even with provision for devs to specify which alternatives are permissible?

Or perhaps by interposing something, like 'BLOK'?

Some sims already let trains routed into the yard re-enter at the other end, in which case the TT writer doesn't need to do anything. I believe this situation exists on Carlisle and Edinburgh.

This only works for trains timetabled through the yard - If you divert one not booked into the yard, it will drop off sim

The issue here is that trains need to enter at the opposite end of the yard; this can't really be automated as the timetable will need editing to either shunt at the west end and return to Shoeburyness, or to continue to Southend and pick up the appropriate working.
