I wonder if it's possible please, to have a scratch pad on the Sim near the down carriage sidings, to save writing out which trains are in there on paper (I get somewhat forgetful!!)

I tend to use sticky notes on the screen, which like a scratch pad allows clickable train descriptions

I use sticky notes all over my sims. I find them useful particularly at stations so that I do not set paths that cause delays to trains leaving. I do not know who decided to include them in sims but they have been a tremendous help to me in recent years.

It's a somewhat difficult debate, given that it's useful having a scratch pad, but not reflective of real life practices. At OXF, the standard practice is to use a reminder appliance (i.e. a cap over the NX button) and stick a magnet on top with the departure time written on it. As per the below, use of the sticky notes is probably the most reflective of relatity.

I've just counted 42 sticky notes on my current Kings Cross sim. I don't think that I would have got as far as I have (07:22 1955 Steam scenario) without getting into a real pickle. Just love them.
Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate.

Someone (I don't think it was me) put a scratchpad in a sim under development many years ago. Poeple thought it was a good idea and it got added to a few more sims. Then, when we switched to the scrolly format, someone mentioned Post-It notes on the panel and Geoff eventually figured out how to implement them in SimSig.

So scratchpads aren't needed any more and I don't expect them to be in sims (yes, I put one in Royston, but there were special reasons).

I'm not sure I agree that scratchpads Aren't needed. They work well as a handover in multiplayer.

Sticky notes are not reliable enough in multiplay, as if you lose the connection (which happens more than occasionally) you lose the lot.

{As an aside, IRL if a sticky note was put on a panel then all signallers would see the note; maybe clients' notes should be on the server and thus visible to all the clients?)

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Fully echo this - it would be good for multi sessions to have server-wide sticky notes available for ALL players to see - makes it handy for handovers (as mentioned by Karl) & can also explain why certain moves/changes are made!

Maybe the best answer is an option on the sticky note to make it "public", i.e. visible to all multiplayer participants.

No so much a nightmare as very untidy at times. But that is what we have in reality along with forms for Engineer's Possession, Line Blockages, Disconnections, and the Occurence Book, plus sheets of paper with stock changes, additonal runnings etc. About time the railway moved to the 21st Century and had a paperless environment.

I'd like to add my support for a small scratch pad area near the DCS. Whilst yes it may not be true to life, the same could be said for any SimSig simulation which perhaps features ARS or other such features which aren't true to life.

The issue with having to rely on sticky notes is that, unless things have changed very recently with V5, too many sticky notes or too much content in sticky notes across the panel can cause a brief lag/pause when you edit just one sticky note even if that one sticky note you edit contains a single character.

As a paid for product, and in line with common standards in customer service, if there is enough of a request for something then I would hope it would be added...

It should be picked up when there is anything to update on the sim

Magnetic stickers? Dry wipe? Not in my old paleolithic days we didn't. The backs of old notices & traffic circulars, on a bulldog clip next to the train register. Why do you need owt else?

As is the performance issue regarding sticky notes: 14894.

And me. When you have a fading memory bank like mine, they're a bonus. Probably use too many really.

Use them especially for departure times at stations.
