When playing sims I notice that, quite regularly, the sim does not respond to a click on the TD. So I click it again. And again. And again. And, after at least a minute, the sim responds with four timetable windows. Can this be fixed please.

How are your PC specs Kev? Are there any other resource intensive applications running in the background? Are we standalone or Multiplayer? The new TT window is anecdotally a little more resource intensive than previous, but I wouldn’t say excessively so - I’m not sure there’d be a “fix” per se - you’ve clicked a TD 4 times and it’s opened 4 windows, it’s just taken longer than expected. It’s also not to my knowledge been raised by any other users, certainly not being as acute as described here?

There is an option to turn off multiple timetable windows in the F3, if that particular feature isn't for a users liking.

As for the delay in it popping up, I'm not sure. Is the sim running faster than normal speed or anything? I personally don't have that issue.

My PC is fine. It used to cope very well with SimSig with previous Loader versions. The fact that it takes longer than expected is the bug that I am reporting.

I think having the specs may help into looking at the issue, it may help those who may be experiencing the same issue and would allow Geoff to maybe tweak something so that it isn't as demanding.

Are there any other details for it to be looked into further? for example, when it does pop up at an appropriate speed, what's different then as opposed to when it does take a long time?

is it a different experience on different sims?

The specifications of my computer are the same as a couple of months ago when we had version 4 of the Loader. I can't find any details of minimum specs on the website so I don't think that this is relevant.

The bug occurs on different sims, at different speeds and in both multiplayer and single player. When it occurs it is not immediately obvious why (if it was I would have reported it). The sim continues running normally while waiting for the timetable window to appear.

I'm not sure there is anything to do. I only get this issue if I run the machine flat out, and even then, it does show (unlike the thread title).

Am I right in inferring that this is one of several windows which now use Internet Explorer as a backend? Starting up IE rendering is considerably more taxing than rendering using standard GUI elements. The delay may result from having to swap out enough data to disk to make room for IE; once that has been done, all further actions involving IE rendering can complete quickly.

Even on my 16GB, octo-core machine with an SSD, opening these new "fancy" windows is not quite instantaneous. On a more limited machine with, say, a laptop HDD, the delay might be quite noticeable.

I believe the control uses the same engine under the bonnet as IE, yes. I don't have a particularly fancy laptop (as well as a desktop) but only have brief delays if the laptop is very busy.

That's fair enough if it's something other than SimSig that's taking its time to respond.

On most computers, a Web browser is the single most resource-intensive application that is commonly in use. I dug out an old P3-based laptop with WinXP, and it does take a long time to start IE or Firefox on that. That's with a truly ancient 18GB IBM Travelstar drive and 256MB RAM. Compared to that, SimSig itself would be very small and lightweight (if it still ran under WinXP, which apparently it doesn't any more).

I will have a look to see if there are more lightweight components that could be used, but it's low priority as it works.

XP is so old and use of it is generally considered as "not recommended".

As a workaround, and to improve perceived response time even on faster machines, would it be possible to make the window visible (even if blank) while the control loads? That would at least avoid the situation where the user makes multiple clicks under the impression that nothing is happening.
