Hey there,

I've been playing Simsig on and off since the very first simulation came out (which my memory thinks was Swindon but I may be wrong).

Haven't played though now for 5 years, so got a bit of catching up to do, and have already bought the North Wales and Cardiff Valleys sims, thinking about Newport, Chester or Shrewsbury.

So I do have two questions:

1) If I wanted to join a chained game like the 'whole of Wales' one running tomorrow, do I need to own ALL the sims being chained, or just the one containing the panel I want to join? Or none of them, is it only the host that needs to own them? Not clear on this.

2) Are there ever any 'pack' buy deals: for example if I wanted to buy Chester, Shrewsbury, Hereford and Newport?

Cheers!

1) No, you only need the sim containing your panel. It's not tomorrow by the way, it's on the 16th.

2) Use the MULTIBUY discount code in the shop to get a discount if you have multiple sims in your shopping cart. In the past there have sometimes been packs for neighbouring sims that were released together but there are none available at present.

1) No you only need to join the simulation(s) you wish to join. So if you wanted to join Chester you'd need to own that, if you wanted to join Shrewsbury you'd need to own that. But if you don't want to join Port Talbot you don't need to own it.

2) Use the code MULTIBUY at checkout to get 15% when buying 2 or more sims. We used to do specific packs but you can now mix and match whatever you want to get.

Slightly off-topic, but I think it would be nice if the demo time limit was removed in multiplayer to allow spectating. All the controls are deactivated anyways, so there's nothing lost on Simsig's part. I often want to check the status of chained simulations in multiplayer, but I can't because I don't own them.

Thanks for the replies. Eventually I probably will get all the Wales sims anyway, but need to be careful with the spending at the moment.

Warrington/Wigan also looks interesting.

I spent a few years driving for ATW and have spent the greater proportion of my life in Wales, hence the particular interest in those ones.

One thing I would love to see would be Newport layout and scenarios as it was in the 1990s (when the small loco depot was there) with endless coal trains rumbling through. I bet it would be very challenging to operate though.

The best advice I can give is to try out sims in trial mode - that allows you to get a feel for the sim, and see if it's what you want to purchase first, or whether something else would be higher on your priority list

The Newport simulation is of Newport PSB, rather than the modern layout as controlled by South Wales ROC. The exception is the Park Jn panel, which simulates the modern layout to Ebbw Vale. However, I don't think any 80s/90s era timetables have been written for it yet.

Although it’s Newport Panel, it’s very much the latter days of the panel layout - Severn TJ Marshalling Yard, and Godfrey Road LIP both notable absentees, the latter being replaced in the late 90s / early 00s by platform

1) If I wanted to join a chained game like the 'whole of Wales' one running tomorrow,

Yeah for clarity it's on Saturday (and will be every Saturday) we meet in OH1 on teamspeak and if you would like a panel/like to see what's still availaible
then do so via this spreadsheet

see you there hopefully

I've just ordered a headset so hoping to be able to participate in some multiplayer fun soon. Even if just to observe initially.

Interestingly I found this old receipt yesterday when tidying some old paperwork up. How time flies, hard to believe it's 19 years since I made my first purchase from Geoff.
