i recently stopped at prestatyn in north wales and it made me realise there is no welsh simulation.

the north wales coast route could potentially be an interesting sim with a mix of AB and NX panel working

thoughts?

Lots of AB!

<drools>

My partner grew up on Anglesey & still has family up there, so I know that line somewhat.

Any chance of a historic version too? Llandudno Junction & Rhyl with 2 large mechanical boxes each... maybe that's where someone brave might try & code my idea for bell signals with AB.

<drools even more>

(Note to self: control yourself Barber!!!)

only problem i can see is potentially chester psb is a sim in its own right.

however NWC would end up being a sim of size and style similar to NESCOT?

I would like to see the NW coast done.

Chester PSB (Chain to Croess Newydd and Sandhills)
Rockcliffe hall
Abergele
Rhyl
Llandudno JNC
Bangor
LlanfairPG
Holyhead

I think that's most if not all of them.

Chester seems OK, it's the Liverpool bit that's not allowed.

Anyway to add to the list is Deganwy and (presumably) Llandudno itself. We stayed in Deganwy a couple of years ago very near the station and a N Wales Sim crossed my mind then- a SimSig developer is never on holiday it seems....

I lent Howard some back back a signaling diagram for Chester PSB dated 1984 when the power box was comissioned for a possible future sim.

I have drawn North Wales for another Simulator Railway Operations Simulator , but the data file corrupted so I couldn't complete it.

If you provide me with lots of cookies I might be motivated to do it again...

I forgot I've also done this: it's nowhere near completion however.

---------

Here's the full list of boxes along the line and branches including their type.
Chester PSB (Chain to Croess Newydd, Sandhills, Mickle Trafford and Crewe)
Rockcliffe Hall - AB
Holywell Junction - AB
Mostyn - AB
Talacre - AB
Prestatyn - AB
Rhyl No 1- AB
Abergele - AB
Llandudno Junction - ? (think it's NX)
Deganwy - AB
Llandudno - AB
Penmaenmawr - ? (NX)
Bangor - AB (Bangor controls the single line working across the Britannia Bridge)
Llanfair PG (Crossing box only, Not a Block Post) - AB
Gaerwen - AB
Ty Croes (as Llanfair PG)
Valley - AB
Holyhead - AB
-------------
A good thing bout the different eras is that when the A55 was built the railway was moved somewhat

I'll shut up now. 24 years of being a railway enthusiast brought up along this line means I have read about it quite a bit, Shame I don't have the skills to sit down and write this in Simsig.

Was Holyhead resignalled in near past? I ask because when we were in the area I noticed the box panel diagram at the railway museum at Betws-y-coed all in bubble wrap as though it had just arrived from somewhere- implying the box had been revamped in some form.

Also a bit of information - the 08.40 Euston-Holyhead on Saturday 28th May is booked Pendolino (Cl 57 drag); I know because we are going to be on it and Virgin HQ informed me the reason we can't book seats is because the decision to change the stock from Voyager has broken the reservation system.

As far as I know Holyhead hasn't had any changes made to it's signalling in a while.

When I visited last November the Holyhead diagram was unwrapped, but on top of a display case so I could only photograph the top half. Hopefully they are re-positioning it.

Peter.

Croess Newydd was resignalled in recent times (2008 - 2009?) It changed from a lever frame, to an NX panel.

Perhaps needless to say, the method of signalling between boxes (AB, TCB, ETB etc.) is completely different to the means of controlling the signalling (lever frame, NX panel etc.). For example, Rockcliffe Hall will work TCB one way (to Chester PSB) and presumably AB towards Holywell. Despite having an NX panel, Llandudno Junction works AB to at least Deganwy and ETB to Llanrwst - not sure about towards Abergele and Bangor. Closer to (my) home, Swinderby on the Newark - Lincoln line has almost the typical AB textbook layout - distant, home and starter in each direction, worked off a lever frame - but is entirely TCB. Llanfair PG might be in the middle of an AB section, but the fact that it's not a block post means that it can't work AB itself! Little details, but hopefully will avoid some potential confusion...

Llandudno Junction box works AB to both Abergele and to Bangor. The same way as Croess Newydd works AB to Gobowen, AB to Dee Marsh (Or Penyfford).

Beeston is alive and well, fringing to Chester and working to Crewe Steel works.

For information Chester does NOT fringe with Merseyrail - Hooton is in the middle.

Holyhead was rewired a few years back which would explain the diagram.

That's for going the fact that Hooton box is due to close next year, with a new bit of panel due to be added into Chester PSB.

I wouldn't count that chicken just yet, Hooton is not due to close at all, the signalmen were due to be told in April and nothing has been forthcoming - that's aside from other inside information I have. That's not saying it won't be recontrolled but at the moment it's not certain.

Of course fhe simulation could pretend that Helsby, Frodsham Junction and Hooton had all closed to extend the area of interest.
