Whilst waiting for the overlap in advance of 2N60 to drop-out, I set the route from CQ66 to CQ64 in readiness for the departure of 1R80 in platform 5.

Next thing I know 1R80 has proceeded towards CQ66.

It's an unfortunate quirk of chicken-and-egg situations where the train won't move until the signal shows a proceed aspect, and the signal won't show a proceed aspect until the train is closer to the signal. This is a case where it shouldn't have happened.

another good example of this is any long multi track circuited platform (euston and Lime Street spring to mind) where the exit signal has a time released shunt aspect. the train will ring out, then proceed against the red signal, until the signal clears to a shunt aspect, for instance when putting a loco into the neck siding at lime street, or one of the BORS at Euston.

it does beg the question as to why these aspects are approach/time released at all, given the train in question will always have been stationary. theres no apparent requirement to check the trains speed? (perhaps a little off topic from the situation at QS, but still a valid question?)
