Will Brighton be getting ARS/Simulation specific options? I'd assume that Three Bridges being a new facility uses ARS on its panels - correct me if i'm wrong!

When I visited Three Bridges I learned that the panel has been fitted with ARS but for some reason it has never been used. Correct me if I am wrong anyone.

Three Bridges ASC not to be confused with the new Three Bridges ROC is getting on for being nearly 31 years old so hardly new now.

Panel 5 the Haywards Heath/Keymer Junction panel has ARS not panel 6 Brighton/Hove panel.
The ARS was an early prototype of what other panels and IECCs use now. According to my colleagues It was apparently switched off at the time of privatisation as no one wanted to own and maintain the equipment. I believe the equipment is still in the telecoms room.

So we're waiting on an ARS/ROC version of Brighton to be sent out?

I wasn't aware that RSC and ROC were different, mostly because I'm pretty sure that FCC control is now based at the ROC.

Thanks - the only thing that stops me playing Brighton is its size without ARS compared to say Lancing. In a fantasy world I'd play Brighton to Angmering/Littlehampton/Barnham which is a good amount of route miles without the complexity that Brighton brings due to its size and needing to manually route trains across multiple panels.

I'd encourage you to give it a go anyway, even without ARS. You might be surprised how well you do. Develop for yourself a system of scanning from one end to the other, setting routes as you go. By the time you have reached mid-morning in the timetable you'll probably have spotted a regular pattern of services and that makes life easier. You can always slow the sim down if necessary. Anyway, ARS doesn't always make the right decisions. Don't be disheartened if the first attempt goes pear-shaped. That's all part of the fun. There's no substitute for practice!

If it is of any help, to overcome your problem with panels is to show the Overview on top of the sim. Click on any portion of the Overview will move the panel to that location.

For me personally, if we momentarily excuse that I have been a Signaller in the past, I get by on the larger busier panels (New Street, Brighton, Bristol, West Hamptstead, Victoria Central) by constantly scanning end to end and route setting as I sweep one end to the other. I also get myself in a position away from distractions, ie away from the Tele, other halfs (ooo that hurt!), and sometimes chuck a bit of music on to further filter out the sound, but not music I have to think about.

I find the large simulations manageable provided I have failures are off. I prefer this for several reasons - one being that I enjoy failures far more on multi-player sessions (as Temple Meads will attest) when you have someone else to either share the pain with, or point a stick at (and hope your panel doesn't follow suit). The other reason is that I have had more than my share of really bad days in the Signal Boxes to worry about intentionally creating them at home as well!!!

Any signaller in the real world should not have any problems running sims. It is those who don't have this experience may find it difficult.

Hi Barry

I recognise your point would probably apply to quite a few people. To be honest with you though, I had been using Simsig well before I began signalling, and I found the ability to control a large sim area still fairly attainable.

I recognise not everyone slots into Signalling so easily though.

I've given it a go on several tries, it took me ages (and i still think it takes me ages if i've not played Brighton in a while) to be able to move trains in and out of sidings unlike any other sim I play.

It's a good challenge - I do forget you can slow down the sim, I usually only speed it up! The scanning system is something I may try because forgetting about trains is a problem i've had for a while on Brighton.

Yep that's the way, keep nutting it out, and keep on going side to side and keep an eye on things. Scanning the board is the key

The thing to remember with Brighton is that in reality you only have to watch a small number of areas, these being (New) Copyhold Junction to Haywards Heath, Keymer Junction and the Brighton / Preston Park / Hove triangle as the rest of the simulated area comprises of fully automatic signalling.

I have put (new) deliberatly as to me Copyhold Junction was where the electrified two track branch to Horsted Keynes left the two track Mainline

Only the former Thameslink SDC based at East Croydon has moved for sure to Three Bridges, Thameslink West Hampstead SDC I'm under impression moves in September and Great Northern SDC moves sometime next year.

However I'm sure Brighton CAN be updated with ARS especially as in real life it's not used.

The ARS at Brighton is not used in real life, because in real life it doesn't have it! However there is as I've said a very early version of the modern ARS on panel 5 Haywards Heath, but this hasn't worked since about 1995.

The bit that might be getting confusing is that most of panel 5 Haywards Heath and all of panel 6 Brighton and Hove of TBASC make up the Brighton sim in SimSig.

I've never been a signaller, and I enjoy some of the quite large ones - I've played many of the larger sims, or the harder smaller sims (eg Waterloo with ARS off) and find most of them fun and challenging. Brighton has never agreed with me, however - it seems to irritate me more than other areas and just doesn't seem as fun. That's not to say there's anything wrong with the sim itself - it's just the area simulated doesn't get along with me
