A 2015 weekday timetable for the Stafford area. Times have been taken from Open Train Times and Real Time Trains, with freight headcodes from Network Rail's WTT. Rolling stock allocations are for a typical day. Virgin Trains diagrams are from the VT Yahoo group. Thanks to JamesN for assistance with the other TOCs.

Passenger trains are based on 15/04/2015, freight is what actually ran on 18/03/2015.

An 0445 start is included.

This timetable is compatible with Woverhampton and Aston 2015.

Important Notes

The Stafford simulation simulates the area prior to the 2007 upgrade. This upgrade saw the addition of Slow lines between Tamworth and Armitage Jn, and increased line speeds. As such, several compromises have had to be made:

- Trains will not keep to time- expresses will lose 2-3 minutes while in the area. Where this has a knock-on effect, I've made the entry times slightly earlier, but I've only done this with certain trains.
- Stopping services between Stafford and Tamworth must be handled carefully. I've included my preferred method in the timetable notes.
- Freight. To help make the timetable playable, I've omitted freights to/from Nuneaton between about 07:00 and 21:00. Note that this does not include freights to/from Bushbury Jn, Rugeley and Alrewas. The first two are unaffected by the changes to the track layout, while the latter has been done to allow chaining to Aston. If you want the challenge of regulating the freight traffic, merge this timetable with the 'Additional Freight' TT included in the zip folder. Instructions on how to do this are included in the readme accompanying the timetable.

Note that the above makes it impossible to run this timetable 'perfectly'- if that's a problem, this isn't the timetable for you.

Service Pattern:

Virgin Trains

Virgin Trains operate long-distance express services along the West Coast Main Line. Most are formed of Class 390 'Pendolino' EMUs, with Class 221 'Voyager' DEMUs used on Chester/Holyhead services and some services via Birmingham. Both types of trains can tilt.

3tph London- Manchester (two via Stoke-on-Trent, the other via Crewe)
1tph London- Liverpool
1tph London- Chester, with extensions throughout the day to Holyhead
1tph London- Glasgow
1tph London- Glasgow/Edinburgh via Birmingham, destination alternates each hour.

Additional services run at peak times, furthermore early morning and evening trains call at Lichfield and Tamworth. Note that VT services running via Birmingham (i.e. the line to Bushbury Jn) run under a Class 9 headcode to distinguish them from those running via Nuneaton. They should be treated as Class 1 for regulation purposes.

London Midland

2tph Birmingham- Liverpool, with one train an hour calling at Penkridge
1tph London- Crewe via Stoke-On-Trent, calling at all stations along the Trent Valley bar Polesworth.
1tph Birmingham- Rugeley Trent Valley along the Cannock line, enhanced to 2tph in the peaks.

Birmingham- Liverpool services are formed of Class 350 EMUs, most of which are the 350/2 (100mph) variant, however some are 350/1s, capable of 110mph. I've assumed London- Crewe services to be 350/3s, again capable of 110mph. Rugeley trains are formed primarilly of two- or three-car Class 170 DMUs, some strengthed with 153s.

Cross Country

1tph Manchester- Bristol (with various extensions throughout the day)
1tph Manchester- Bournemouth

All services are formed of Class 220 or Class 221 DEMUs. Note that XC 221s have had their tilt equipment disabled, and 220s never had it in the first place.

Arriva Trains Wales

Operate one train a day between Wolverhampton and Crewe for route knowledge purposes, formed of a Class 158.

Caledonian Sleeper

Two trains in each direction per night, London-Edinburgh & Glasgow, the other London- Fort William, Inverness & Aberdeen. These trains consist of 16 coaches, in theory hauled by a Class 92. In reality, reliablilty issues at the time of this TT meant that they tended to be hauled by whatever loco Wembley could batter back to life in time to work the service...

Freight

Freight services largely consist of Container and Car traffic from the north west to the southern ports, and also engineering traffic from Crewe to various locations. Rugeley North Power Station also receives a few coal trains a day.

But other then that I am upto about 10am from 0445 start very good.

Thanks for all the hard work to those involved

Picking brains... Unknown if it's me but after running from 0445 start to the end which was wicked enjoyed every min..
I've now started from 00:00 but 1K77's headcode isn't there behind 1Y85 at Norton Bridge once loaded up.. Took me a while to figure it out as it was a moving TCF too me. F2 showed it at Norton Bridge behind the unit in front.
4L89 seems to be in the wrong location but I've noted below that it's been fixed.

Thanks again,

Hmm- thought I'd sorted that one when I tested the TT. Thanks for reporting it.

It looks like the train describer gets confused if you seed trains at consecutive signals, I'll fix it in the next version.

Version 1.1, which fixes the two seeding problems reported above, is now available here.

This TT should not be confused with the "Stafford 2015 (SSuX)" written by Winsford Salt Mine.

I missed this when it was first released and have just downloaded the latest version. However, it doesn't seem to have the additional freight services in the .zip folder. Is this still available?
