My computer has just completed it's weekly deep scan.

Now this normally results in a nothing found report.

This time however, though nothing nasty was found, there where 22 Tracking Cookies found.

Just One Of Those Things??? The only place i've been since the last check that I had not been before is this new SimSig site and the NHS site.

If anybody gets a chance to check, please let me know.

What tracking cookies did it find? Many tracking cookies are a result of advertisements. SimSig does use google ads (Geoff has to pay for the website hosting somehow!!) but they are no different than the previous SimSig site.

If you have been to other websites then who knows where they have come from and just because you have been to a website before does not mean that it won't put a cookie on your machine now.

You can test it yourself by removing the cookies, going to the SimSig website and then running another check. If you find any cookies then they must have come from SimSig as its the only one you've been to. I am sure Geoff would be intersted to know if you can confirm they do come from the SimSig site.

It was the range and number of Cookies that caused the comment, and yes I know the adds help to pay for the site, other than "Doubleclick" which can be found on a regular basis the others I have to the best of my knowledge never seen before and would, should, normally have been removed when I closed my Browser.

They where "Yealdmanager", "Adteck", "Advertising.Com", "2o7", "Questionmarket" and "Tradedoubler" so yes they look like Addman jobs, and have now all been added to my NO NO list.

Long in the tooth and creatcher of habit, my normal daily cycle round the internet is "BBC News" (set as my home page), "Yahoo groups" (which is where they normally come from) and SimSig. Anywhere else would only be for specific information.

Did you manage to narrow it down specifically to the SimSig website?

As said, they where added to the No No list. Did find one source of the problem, an XP auto update (that big 15 part update at the beginning of the month) had overwritten some of my settings.

To-night and to-morrow morning will be the first chance to do a check as the deep scan
takes a little over 8 (EIGHT) hours, so is not a light commitment to do an extra one.

Crikey 8 hours - Is your PC out of action then while it does that?

Not quite, though it's so slow there is little point in trying to do
anything else, and it only extends the time taken for the scan.

Last night, 7Hrs 58mins 23sec to scan 997,856 objects (files?) and
resulted in a complete clean sheet.

So whatever the source of all those cookies has now gone or been blocked.

Did remember last night while the scan was going, that I had been
looking at some old e-mail attachments (WTT information).
These open using "Firefox" or "IE" (dependent on how old they are)
and not my default browser "Safari".

It's possible that this may have been the source, will have to check.

In the meantime www.SimSig is on the No Problem List,
so we can close this Topic.
