Is there any news on the new XML format? I'm still developing various tools and would like them to support the new format!

Geoff,
On the General tab of the Timetable List, could the Start time and Finish Time be time formatted (hh:mm),the same as the times in the timetable. It would assist the testers.

Another idea, rather than creating our own format, attempt to support an existing one like RailML or TrainsXChange

I think we have to b careful here as I have a foot in both camps. As far as I am concerned the current Timetable editor is adequate as it does its job. We seem to be geting into an area that involves a timetabling system that is reliant on the use of WTTs , CWNs etc etc. These are all "confidential and all say on them "Private and not for Publication". yes you can obtain old copies which are hard copies from various sources. If you look at a WTT all this states is a set of "paths" paid for by the various TOCs/FOCSs in reality a Freight WTT is about as factual as Noddy in Towtown. I spend ours at work each week checking doing variations and cancellationds to the normal TT. We tried using XML at work but then it becomes apparent that not everyboby has the means to read XML spreadsheets and I am talkng about big Train companies so has everybody in SimSig?. I am working on various TTs using tools at my disposal and it is still no easy task. Train 5Axx does not form 1Axx in many cases. Are we going to take into account headways, pathing times. Try doing a TT for Liverpool street it is only passenger trains no freight then you may understand

This idea has nothing to do with using WTTs/CWNs and is all about making a newer timetable format that will be easier for beginners to edit and would make it easier to add new features, currently you need to use the inbuilt SimSig timetable editor, or convert to/from Convdata, however the sim can only read it as a binary filetype, adding extra fields to this wouldn't be easy without breaking pre-existing sims.

XML isn't a two dimensional data format and therefore a spreadsheet application isn't the greatest way of viewing, plain text and custom viewers are generally far better ways I am writing my own tools and XML is so much easier to use than a binary file based system.

Headways should not be taken into account, that should be in the sim data for entry points, however if you send trains more frequently than headway allows, you'll might not be able to clear all the trains, pathing times should be in the WTT data if you want accurate timetabling and scoring.

I have done a WTT for Liverpool Street. as well as a few other sims, they are all to yet to be fully checked, tested and released, I'm not sure what 'Timetable editor' you are using, however perhaps we could come up with one that's better than adequate.

Also I can't see Geoff deprecating the old binary format unless absolutely required and there are ways to bring older files to the new format and provide tools required to deal with this.
