If you feel the temptation to use P4 at Gordon Hill (or tend to forget which of the two bays has been taken out of use), I've discovered that with the help of some suitably sized, black sticky notes, you can perfectly simulate the current situation. Incidentally, does anyone know any other changes to running lines (not some obscure sidings, as without a timetabled move you wouldn't use them anyway) between the simulated layout and the 2004-today era? The only thing I know about is the DF-DS crossover at Hatfield, which apparently has been removed at some point. Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick. Log in to reply |

At Hatfield, as you say, the DF-DS crossover has been removed, but the US-UF crossover has also been removed and moved about a mile south (now at 16mi 06ch from King's Cross; for reference, Welham Green is at 15mi 50ch and Hatfield is at 17mi 54ch). The new US-UF crossover is called Marshmoor crossover, and the lack of that caused a few hiccups in creating the 2009 timetable that I'm working on. The changes at Hatfield happened sometime between 1998 and 2006, based on the two editions of Quail I own. The only other change I'm aware of is, as you say, Gordon Hill; platform 4 at Gordon Hill had gone by 1998, and platform 1 was marked as "out of use" in 1998 but was back in use by 2006. Of course, there are further changes planned for the future, including the viaduct at Hitchin and the connection to Thameslink, but they are a few years away yet (at best!). Log in to reply |
