Sorry to post this here but I'm running out of options so would be grateful if anyone had any ideas:

Since last November my health has been deteriorating, initially I was just feeling dizzy/light headed but since then I've started getting spasms under my skin at various locations, belching most of the time for no reason. I'm periodically getting this strange burning/tingling feeling at various locations. The back of my nick tingles most of the time. I'm also often feeling sick. More recently I can't feel temperature, can't feel hungry, can't feel thirsty and most recently I lost the ability to taste things. I'm also having ringing in my ears all the time and constant light headed/brain fog. Now I've been going to the doctor for 6 months and they've done various blood tests but since then all I've got out of them is "We've done all these blood tests, they are all negative so it's all psychosomatic." This is not helpful and as time goes on I'm getting progressively worse. I've also been unable to get out for a few months now. I know this isn't a medical support community but if anyone has any suggestions of anything I can do I would be most grateful.

Do you have any problems with using your hands or moving your arms, or when moving around the house?

No motor neurone disability no but the constant brain fog, dizzyness is making doing everyday jobs around the flat difficult.

I would suggest a look at the WebMD website (which is in partnership with Boots - the 'original' WebsMD site is intended for America) and give their Symptom Checker a try too. I would be surprised if the Symtom Checker didn't assist you.

Hope this helps you.

The range of symptoms suggest a neurological basis - and quite possibly that something in your brain's not right at all. Would suggest NHS Direct/24; and recommend trying to get some brain scans.

I copied your message (without giving names) to a private mailing list I'm on that includes a GP and a medical researcher among others. Here's some comments:

Person 1:
See a neurologist, or ask to be referred to one.

Person 2:
But about half those symptoms remind me of my own situation and it turned out I'd developed allergies to many foodstuffs. I would recommend that the sufferer tries a brown rice diet for as much of two weeks as they can stick to it. Since they say they are losing their sense of taste anyway, it won't be much of a stretch. Note that this really does mean no coffee and no tea. It's boring as hell, but it really will highlight food allergies: any improvement during the week will tell you something.

<http://www.articlesbase.com/nutrition-articles/brown-rice-diet-to-remove-toxins-and-balance-ph-784121.html>
A doctor should be consulted first about the brown rice diet, in case it will exacerbate existing problems or the sufferer is already deficient in some particular vitamin. In some cases multivitamins are recommended to accompany the diet. When you can no longer bear the monotony, find the one food you miss most (not something with a collection of ingredients like coffee-with-milk-and-sugar, just one food) and add that one, then a few days later another, etc..

Person 3 (GP):
"Psychosomatic" is a word with a dark history, and really not useful IMO. However, it's not at all impossible that she _could_ get these symptoms associated with a severe anxiety disorder with depression - IF there are positive symptoms in that direction. These are positive diagnoses, not wastebaskets.
[Clive's comment: in other words, "psychosomatic" means "this is being caused by your mental state rather than a germ and therefore needs a different kind of treatment"; it does not mean "stop whinging, nothing's wrong with you".]
She hasn't mentioned the specific symptoms of CFS, but if they're present, that's another possibility, though the "can't feel hungry/thirsty/taste/temperature" are highly unusual for that. Along with other things.
She obviously needs a good full neuro exam, if she hasn't already had one, plus or minus MRI as appropriate for the exam; and a proper full history taken by someone with clue, if that hasn't been done. A lot of those symptoms are quite difficult to interpret as written. Pretty much every symptom there needs a lot more questioning and elaborating, as does all of the past history and a full systemic enquiry, which is why I don't feel comfortable offering any sort of opinion/suggestion.

Hope this is of help.

Sounds neurological to me. Ask your GP to be referred to a neurologist about it. If the symptoms ever get much worse than that I would suggest considering calling an emergency doctor round as it could indicate some kind of physical problem within the brain.
