Question about Kings Cross sim 29/10/2009 at 09:55 #163

Hi

Just a quick question. Certain trains at Kings Cross, eg 1E41/1E42, divide when they terminate. Whenever I press F4 to ascertain their status, SimSig tells me that they are awaiting 'Joining Train 0E41/0E42'. I can't find these trains and I'm assuming they are part of these terminating trains. Is there a way of ascertaining this and if they are indeed part of these trains, how do I join them to the attaching trains?

Hope this make sense.

Cheers.

You have not said which timetable are you using? But at a guess it's either 1977 or 1985 as that would explain the loco move and 1E41 was, I believe, a sleeper service.

In which case the train will arrive and the leading loco detach. The ECS will then sit there awaiting the pilot loco to come and remove the stock to Ferme Park.

If you have a look at the full timetable [f4 I think] for 0E41 it should give you an idea of where it's coming from. As the stock is sleepers it may well fester for a time before being fetched.

As I say just a guess without further details of the timetable.

I'm running the Standard 0600 start 1985 timetable. As well as the above query, I have two trains 0E432 and 0E48, which say they are at Kings Cross station but they cannot depart because a train is at the front (presumably part of 1E43 and 1E48 respectively), but I cannot see a clear way of clearing these trains.

If you have a look at the timetable for (say) 1E43 what does it say it should do when it gets to KX in terms of detach/join and next workings etc.

So if on arrival it says DF 0E432 then that will be sitting at the buffers with the carriages behind- clearly 0E432 can't depart till the carriages have been removed by another loco probably called 0E43_ with a different suffix. It is possible that that loco is itself stuck at the buffers behind another set of coaches and will only be released for duty when those coaches are removed. You really need to back track through the timetable to see what comes from where to do what.

With problems like this I tend to use the "Tools" section of the TT Editor to generate
an Arr/Dep text page.

I find it better for working back than actually trying it through the TT.

I am running 1985 6:00 start, V7.21 (the latest AFAIK).

1E43 appears at the beginning of the sim from Welwyn. It should be routed into P6 at KX. It divides off the loco and the rear portion (furthest from the buffers) becomes 5E421. This then requires 0E421 to join it.

0B13 also appears at the start of the game from KX goods yard and should be reversed at Copenhagen tunnels into P4. It then devides into 2: the section closest to the buffers is 0E421, the remainder is remains as 0B13. 0B13 then moves to the loco sidings.

At 6:30, 0E421 leaves P4 to Gasworks, reverses back into P6 and joins 5E421, which leaves at 6:37.

Just so you are aware, when a train divides, a DF is divide front and DR is a divide rear. When the divide happens it is always in the direction the train was travelling when it arrives at that location. As KX is a terminus, the front is always at the buffer stop end.

Does that help you?
