How about Stourbridge Junction to chain to Saltley (and I believe if Birmingham New Street is in development)? Would definately be a nice one player sim, but you would always have something to do on it. I suppose it would be a bit like Lime Street in the sense that it would be a very busy sim but managable by one player.

You only want it to say "Change at Stourbridge Junction for services to Stourbridge town!"

"Passengers for New Lane, should be seated in the rear coach of the train " - Opinions are my own and not those of my employer

As I constantly travel on that line to uni most weeks, it would be interesting as such. Although the level of services would be the same during the day, random scenarios and failures could make it fun!

I was thinking about Stourbridge Jct as a sim the other day - but also include the AB sections around Worcester, allowing additional chaining with Gloucester

This would definitely make a nice 1 player simulation with a reasonably interesting layout including 2 CCTV crossings. Current service is quite intensive with limited freight, but the layout would also work well for early era timetables.

A diversion WTT with Lickey closed would definitely be interesting.

You can find some pictures taken just before closure here:

Shame that it is now; and to quote someone I know "Within the West Midlands Signalling Dungeon"

i think its a great idea.you can have round oak steel works trains and Chiltern trains leaving there depot to go to Kidderminster in the morning to form London Trains also you could have a Timetable that is set in BR/GWR days were sevices whent in the direction of Round Oak and re instate Platform 4 which is now the car park.

It probably looks nicer now but last time I was there, the inside of the golf ball was pretty depressing. I vaguely recall they had to install sound baffles due to ricocheting echoes.

Mind you looks like West Midlands Signalling centre has a limited life span! Picked up this from another forum:

LNW South and West Midlands Operating Strategy Update

Plans for LNW ROCs

Three of the ROCs were planned to be in LNW, located at Manchester, Saltley and Rugby. Manchester is currently being built and construction of Rugby will start in summer 2013.

The West Midlands Signalling Centre (WMSC) at Saltley has seen a steady build up of workstations since 2007. This process will continue with the re-signalling of New Street in 2017. However, we have concluded that the WMSC is not suitable to be upgraded to a ROC in the longer term. It will be more cost-effective to re-control the WMSC to Rugby ROC. We expect to seek funding to do this in 2019.

The WMSC was never totally suitable for conventional signalling, having been designed for that moving block nonsense for the West Coast in the Railtrack era.

I think the main issue is there is not the room for the equipment, I believe that part of Saltley PSB is having to be retained for some of this.

However, on the other hand I cannot see that there will be the cash to start moving large quantities of signalling down to Rugby.

I think you're right about the equipment room - I vaguely recall a comment about lack of space way back when there were only 3 workstations in there and plans have changed since then. Those bombproof walls and doors take up a lot of room!
