Cl.45 D137 passes Walsall Midland Yard. D137 was later re-numbered as 45014 'The Cheshire Regiment' under TOPS post 1975. Date unknown. Bob & Paul Dalton photo.

This photo taken from the top of one of the yard lights at Bescot Down Sorting Sdgs shows Bescot Up Yard, the Grand Junction lines where the EMU is, followed by the former Bescot Down Local Sorting Sdgs where the withdrawn locos & other locos are stabled & the lines to the far right are the arrival & departure lines for Bescot Down Sorting Sdgs. Another photo taken by Bob & Paul Dalton from the staff footbridge between Bescot traincrew signing on point & Bescot Down Tower. A Cl.33/1 stands on the Up & Down Goods line next to the Grand Junction lines. The group of sdgs to the right of the Cl.33/1 were the Down Local Storage Sdgs, which in later years as shown in a previous photo was where the locos were stabled at Bescot. Date unknown.

Another Bob & Paul Dalton photo. This time shows Cl.35 Hymek D7021 on Bescot TMD. This Hymek was one of the Bromsgrove bankers. There were a group of Hymeks modified to be used as bankers on the Lickey Incline. Three Hymeks were coupled together to bank trains up the Lickey in the late 1960s early 1970s, not to sure when the Hymeks were withdrawn from banker duties & probably replaced by pairs of Cl.37s. If anyone on SimSig knows then please post any info.

Another Bob & Paul Dalton photo. This time shows Cl.45/0 45042 derailed at Hatton. This was the incident that resulted in a change to the BR rule book & Appendix Instruction to the assisting of failed trains from the rear. Fortunately the Saltley driver on 45042 escaped injury by jumping off the loco IIRC.

Another Bob & Paul Dalton photo showing Cl.46 D166 in BR Green livery with yellow warning panels running LD past Wallows Lane, Walsall. The picture looks as if the two lines behind the loco would be the lines that take you towards Wolverhampton from Walsall. The Cl.46 is heading towards Walsall station from the Pleck Junction area.

Another Bob & Paul Dalton photo, this time shows Cl.17 Clayton D8570 at Bescot yard awaiting movement to a scrapyard for cutting up. The loco had been withdrawn by this stage & I've seen another photo of it being hauled in a Trip freight to Cohens scrapyard in the West Midlands. Date unknown.

Another Bob & Paul Dalton photo, this time dated post 1977 as it shows 47164 on a pretty packed Saltley depot. With a myriad of other classes such as Cl.25, Cl.31 & Cl.45s. 47163 & 47164 both Stratford locos had the 'Union Jack' painted on their sides for the Queen's silver jubilee in 1977. I remember seeing 47163 at the buffer stops in this livery in the old Liverpool Street terminus back in 1978.

Stratford was known for that sort of thing. I believe, later, it was their 'Cockney Sparrow' logo (painted on) that led to the rash of depot logos (and cast plates) that saw old BR out in the '90s.

Ironic really; Stratford was the most militant depot in the country yet it was Stratford that led the way in such patriotic gestures. Go figure...

Cricklewood wasn't far behind then, why do you think the HSTs were never sent to Cricklewood T&RSMD new shed building which was built in the first place to service HSTs. There was a famous saying that went around when I started on the footplate in 1985 whereby the Cricklewood LDCs warned if the HSTs ever went onto Cricklewood they'd never come off. That would have suited me, more haulage on proper engines like the Cl.45s, arguably the best diesel electric loco BR ever built & I'm not just saying that cos I'm a Midland man. Oh for a return to the days of Cl.45 hauling 8 Mk.2Ds plus Mk.1 buffet, as opposed to plastic 'Meridian' sets running about today.
