Can't think of the right question to search for as it's quite a complicated one to phrase! But is there any known differences between the picture rendered on a standard TV when using a HD digi-box as opposed to a non-HD digi-box? The reason I ask is that Virgin have sent me foc a HD-V box which I have installed but my wife says the picture is giving her headaches. Despite swapping the boxes back and forth I can't see any obvious difference (neither can she). So is there any known, possibly subliminal, reason why there maybe a difference? Could well be the HD box outputs at a different 'refresh rate' to the previous one. How have you got it wired? What refresh rate(s) does your TV run at? Log in to reply |

Would've thought to get a HD picture from a HD box, you'd need a HDTV connected to it with a HDMI cable (rather than a composite or scart cable). Much like I'm sure it is with, say, a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 gaming console - if you connect that to a 'normal' TV (with a scart or composite cable) you'll notice the difference if you then happened to get a HDTV and connected either of them up to it via a HDMI cable, or even if you put them side by side, whatever. Some time ago I've wired an old CRT TV to a HDTV box, because of switching to another TV provider. It worked very well using scart cable, the TV didn't flicker any more than it did before (CRT TVs always show some flickering). So it's certainly possible to get this right.
