On the new Brighton sim when a train leaves the station it loses its headcode, is this a bug?

Have you got the TD for the outgoing train in the correct berth on the platform? All explained in the manual on the Wiki.

have you interposed the headcode into the berth furthest from the buffers? If not then the "blank" from this will be what travels up the line so to speak
