On the topic of 'dedicated' hosting, I have a friend who has a server PC and is currently looking for a use for it. I've recently introduced him to SimSig and he'd be happy to help with this event. Only thing is though (he admits it as well) his internet connection isn't amazing.

I can host a Kings Cross 24 hour TT, need some coffee, but it is ok, if anyone interested, I intend to start at 00:00 of 28/09/13 (next Saturday), with 1977TT, need at least 10 people, because there will be changes every 3 hours on workstations. Regarding the remote access, I will notify signallers if necessary.

I can definitely sign on for a decent chunk of that, including the first shift.

As fun as that TT is, it's not really suitable for this sort of thing, considering the amount of chaos it creates..!

FYI I've hosted Simsig on Amazon Web services with no issues and it's completely reliable. ( free sims only due to the ephemeral nature )

Various bods have proposed a 24-hour session and even the date of the 28th was mentioned. As I write, your intentions are unclear and vague. You must set a clear date and time. (Please note that midnight is a confusing start time to most people, even though midnight is the first minute of a day.) Test any technology that you intend to use well in advance of any session to check that it works. Actually carry out a handover between hosts if that is your plan. Post in Hosting-Session Details well in-advance to get a good crowd. Don't set conditions - you will need as many people as you can get to keep the game going. Remember that all the expressed enthusiasm will fade away in the actual small hours of the game. So, if you raised the 24-hour game as a possibility, work towards carrying out your plans and let us know how you are progressing. Otherwise, simply let us know that it was a nice idea that can't be realised. There is no harm in that and we won't think any less of you. We just need to know what, if anything, is going to happen.

All info, at least if I have anything to do with it, will be published here. So far I certainly don't feel in any rush - that is not the same as abandoning it.

Sounding out reasonable times to do it should probably start soon though. Weekend sometime makes most sense doesn't it, say Saturday noon - Sunday noon?

I don't know if this went ahead but I have my own server which is always available (with a bit of notice) if there is enthusiasm for this sort of event. Internet speed is fast enough :)

I would like to make this happen. I can provide a server that can run the entire event, and have confirmed it working with a test install.

As a date for diary, Saturday 13th September is earmarked, starting 00:00 (basically starting late Friday night) and keeping the real time aligned as close as possible.

Please register your interest via this thread or PM to me. I'll draft up a roster.

It will be a non-pay sim to keep it inclusive, and depending on the level of interest, may be chained. Based on previous discussion, the Kings Cross 1985 timetable is the current pick unless there is a strong view otherwise.

More details to follow.

I didn't get much of a response on this. To make it work we probably need at least 20 players willing to commit to a few hours at least.

Drop me a PM if you are interested.

Thank you to those who offered to play this session.

Unfortunately the numbers needed to realistic run a host like this did not materialise, so the session is not going ahead this Saturday.
