I noticed last night, that when approach locking kicks in, it will not let you reset the route again while the signal is timing out (as other sims allow you to). is this prototypical to the real system on the Victoria line?

Some LUL installations did do this I believe.

I would say it would be as normally trains are in almost fully automatic operation.
