Version 3.0 of the very popular Marylebone simulation is now available. Please click "check for updates" in the Loader.

This version consolidates the two 2015 eras into the final one decided on by Network Rail and Chiltern Railways. Because of major changes to the Princes Risborough to Bicester, and Bicester to Oxford sections, unfortunately saved games will be incompatible with this new version. Timetables will, however, continue to be compatible even though a couple of station names have changes (Bicester Village and Oxford Parkway).

Enjoy the inner and outer splitting distants approaching Bicester South Junction!

Out of curiosity, what is the purpose of an Auto button on OB1792 at Bicester Village? a terminal siding seems like a very strange place to have a signal with auto working.

also how does automatic working on OB1787 and OB1794 work with a CCTV crossing in the middle of the route?

I suspect the auto button is future provision for the double tracking to Claydon and beyond. As for the autos across the crossing, yes, unusual, but maybe the auto-lower has something to do with it.

Nice job. I noticed those splitting distants and, if they are commissioned, it would be interesting to see them close up. I admit I don't think I have ever seen an MAS splitting distant.

Maybe they hope that they'll be replacing the crossing with a bridge or something? Guessing this is on the Oxford to Bicester section; this would make sense because I suppose it'll have to be significantly altered for the increased frequencies of East West Rail.

"MAS"? Multiple aspect signal? (As opposed to a searchlight signal)?

I can't find it in the glossary.

Multiple Aspect Signalling, as opposed to Semaphore

I've seen Auto Buttons over CCTV crossings before. You can see it here over Narborough CCTV LC when supervised by Croft.

Colour light split distants seem to be quite common on the western - there are 6 between London and Didcot alone!

Whoa. I spent two whole days on a Thames rover and only saw two... Saw plenty of green banners though!

The splitting distant in question is a repeater - that is the aspect (sorry!) about ME187R which is less common.

Out of interest (I haven't updated yet as I'm on holiday) is Marylebone now chainable to Leamington - timetables permitting? Oh and as I'm away - feel free to release more new sims, you usually do!

I'm away from the main PC to test it with the new version of Marylebone, but yes Leamington was built to be compatible so there shouldn't be an issue, and it worked in testing previously.

Though at the moment I don't think there's a cross compatible TT that's been released. Though my TT writer is working on one.

ON the new branch .... are you supposed to run trains along the single line stretch not the double track .... I can't see how to easily cross trains over at Bicester town to the other line ... or maybe I'm taking crazy pills

it does seem to merrily putter back down the reversible but it doesn't seem right to not use the other track

The situation before the current works had the entire branch singled IIRC (correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there were any passing loops), so this can best be simulated by using just the single line. Basically, the issue is that the layout is not designed for the old timetable. I doubt you'll have any trains terminating at Bicester Town/Village in the new timetable when it comes out (if it's not out already).

If/when someone writes a timetable designed for the new layout, you'll be able to use it much more accurately.

Just one point to make, on the sim Bicester Village in the 2015 layout is still labelled as Bicester Town on the overall view of the Marylebone sim however it has its correct name in list of locations under Timetable.

That said with regards to Chiltern and their Marylebone to Oxford services will they likely just be extended Bicester North terminators or new services altogether?

The reason I mention it is because I am currently playing a solo session of Marylebone and just for my own use am editing the timetable so the Bicester North terminators now divert to Bicester Village to give a connection with the Oxford to Bicester Village services.

Depending on the timetable, I may look into extending the Oxford to Bicester Village services to Marylebone and the Marylebone to Bicester Village services to Oxford but of course it depends if it's actually feasible to do so or will be interesting to say the least.

so far so good though....

IIRC the decision to rename Bicester Town to Bicester Village was made unilaterally by Chiltern (and, naturally, opposed by local residents who are resenting their town being taken over by a shopping centre). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not sure that it's really gone through the usual channels - it might in the end amount to just Chiltern branding the station Bicester Village on their signage and PIS systems and nobody else following suit.

I believe Chiltern are doing a total timetable recast for the Bicester services. The main low point is that Stratford-upon-Avon is losing most of its through services.

EDIT: Here's a good summary of the recast: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showpost.php?p=2207533&postcount=1

Well yes the tradition has been kept up with the release of Huddersfield. Perhaps you should go away more often, for the rest of us to get more sims Nick lol

Just to add to that - they have also moved the Aylesbury via LU / Amersham service around the clockface, so they leave Marylebone at 27,57 minutes past each hour. This helps us (LU) as it means the Chiltern is out of the way and not held up by any late Chesham services crossing over at Chalfont. It also has a side effect of freeing a northbound/down path for any diverted Birmingham trains during disruption.

Edit: Missed the 2nd bullet point on the link, which more or less says what I said above :doh

Does this include saves made when running in 2013 mode?

While messing around, I've noticed that it's impossible to set a route from OB1787 or OB9017 towards Claydon. A 'No route between selected signals' error is displayed. Is this intentional?

The default timetable can be run in 2015 mode, with the Oxford- Bicester Town shuttle service simulated. No timetables make use of the full layout at the moment, as the route hasn't been opened in real life yet.

There should be one out soon, chainable with Leamington as well, subject to a couple of final successful tests.
