I have a query about trains heading in the up direction that reverse at either the Railnet Reception Road 1 or behind signal 1193 on the line to Kensal Green Junction. It seems that at both these locations a route must be set from beyond the reversing point (i.e. signal 770 or 672 respectively) even if the train in question fits behind the reversing signal (WY38/1193) with room to spare. Not setting route results in a “Train sitting at red signal 770/672” message. Upon receiving the message, setting the route onwards causes the train to immediately reverse. Is this normal?

What length is the train in question?

I ask as while the train may fit wholly on the relevant track circuit, that doesn't necessarily mean it is behind the protecting signal (as TC breaks aren't always at signals) - also on that score a train in SimSig will stop a few metres short of the signal at danger.

What may appear as reversal immediately after setting the route, may be the train shuffling up just 1 or 2 metres to get inside the protecting signal.

Ahh, that makes sense, James. Hadn’t considered that! :)

The one at Kensal Green was 21m as Barry said. The one at Railnet Reception was 164m (8-car Class 325). The wiki says this road is 248m (hence my confusion).

Attached, is a ssg for 0L81 ready to shunt to sig 672, reverse and attach to 4L81 when it arrives at U&DG.
