I make no apologies for remembering this bit of local knowledge from the areas to the south end of the new Tyneside sim.
When I were a lad......on a Saturday night we used to take the local service between Darlington and Richmond alighting at Croft and with a bit of a walk we ended up at a hostelry on the north side of the river Tees. Now I cannot say that we were hardened drinkers but just across the Tees on the Yorkshire side the closing time was 11 o'clock and not 10:30 as it was in Durham. There was two pubs, one in Durham and one in Yorkshire. All within a two minute walk across the road bridge. You know what I am going to say next. After last orders in Durham it was a quick walk ( perhaps I should say stagger)across the bridge to catch last orders in Yorkshire. Those local stoppers that don' exist anymore did have their uses and who says that Yorkshire folk are crazy.......
