The RAIB report into this could make interesting reading.

Dave
Rather than getting into all sorts of speculation, would it be better to keep the focus of this topic on published RAIB reports? At this stage we do not even know whether there will be any RAIB report depending on the accuracy of press accounts.

Even the Stornoway Gazette has the story!

Spokesman is quoted as referring to "power car", so picture maybe misleading.

The 1.30pm CrossCountry departure from Bristol Temple Meads to Glasgow on Monday October 31 came to a stand shortly after leaving the station after the leading powercar became separated from the rest of the train.

The incident happened at low speed and the onboard safety systems stopped the train immediately. All 209 customers onboard were safely taken off the train and able to continue their journeys after it was moved back into the station.

An investigation is currently ongoing into the cause of the incident, although at this stage there is nothing to suggest a similar problem is likely to occur on any other train of this type.

I'm pretty sure that there will be a RAIB investigation into this, judging by the severity of the incident, the potential severity of the incident as well as how it could've happened, I'll be following this one.

Previous incidents of a similar nature haven't been investigated, so I wouldn't count your chickens.
