While writing a timetable for Tyneside, I noticed that there's nothing booked over the Hexham- Carlisle line between around 23:00 and 06:30, and nothing on the Newcastle- Hexham section from midnight to 05:30. However, the planning rules show that the route is open continuously on weekdays. Do the signalboxes actually stay open all night, or will they close if there's nothing booked to run?
