Hi all,

A minor issue I've found whilst adjusting an historic timetable.

I've inserted a road learning light engine which reverses on the single line at Pinhoe EJ1 signal (shown as a reversal point in the timetable listing). As you would expect the train description passes forward to Honiton on the single line although the train does clearly not run that far.

The engine reverses with no issues and returns towards Exeter but then it is then impossible to get acceptance for and set a route for the next train requiring to use the single line in either direction, presumably because the cancellation of the train description in the Honiton berth is not allowed.

Instructing the next train requiring the single line from the Pinhoe direction to pass EJ2 at danger clears the block and normal working can be resumed.

Not a big problem I know, but worth a mention.

I'm fairly certain that Tokenless block requires a train to go right the way through a section, so the sim is behaving prototypicaly.

Yes I would agree with that but not knowing the area too well, I didn't know if there were any special instructions.

So the reversal is not really a valid move then.. I adjust the timetable to run the loco through to Honiton and back.

Once the section is occupied, the treadle and tracks at the far end have to be operated to clear it back to normal again.

...and if I remember my rules correctly, then should the tokenless block fail working by pilotman has to be instituted.

Where I was in the 70s we frequently used to get failure of the tokenless block between Knighton South and Desford North, usually due to cable theft!

A pilotman to send a train through would be needed to reset it yes. I can't imagine modified working would be authorised there.

To reverse at Exmouth Jn, the best bet would be to go into the yard.

At Oxford, if a train left the block down, if a light engine was available, put in working by pilotman, send the engine in as far as clearing the berth track circuit at the signal , signal it back off the single line normally. This usually cleared the block.

Hiya,

First to say that it isn't my timetable - its Ed Jeffery's 1981 Exeter Summer timetable, which I am adding to for - at the moment - my own use. Unless I can contact Ed (and I can't find him on the forum) then I won't be uploading it to the files area. I might be prepared to release it to any individual that contacts me but I certainly won't be putting it into the files area without Ed's permission.

I'm adding in some typical trip working of the time, adding in light engines to and from Riverside and Fairwater Yards to work and after working trains, some OTM movements and as you can see, a road learning engine. I might convert that into a road learning DMU if I can find which one was in use in the area at the time.

We have established that the sim is not accurate for 1981 as Exeter PSB did not take over fully until 1986. In particular, a lot of necessary "artistic license" has been applied by the developer at Newton Abbott and Cogload. Because of that I'm not going to as much trouble as I did with Peterborough 1977, in making this very accurate, hence the trip working being a best guess scenario. That said, it plays well but its a long way from finished and I've two other projects on the go as well. Version 1.04 of Peterborough 1977 is nearly done and I'm testing another timetable for someone else.

I'm trying, via a Yahoo group, to find WR stock working for 1981 - if I can't find them then I'll have to use another year as a best guess again. Should anyone know where I might find some indication of summer stock workings on the WR please let me know.

The system between Claydon L&NE Junction and Oxford North Junction is electrically radically different to the one on the Exmouth Junction to Salisbury line.

You can run in and out of the same end of the Oxford system, but not the Honiton one.
