Sorry if this is obvious, but I am having trouble working out how to edit the precedence rules. When ARS is in operation, some trains in some sims unnecessarily give precedence to other trains. How can I edit this?

You can’t, in short.

If ARS is giving priority to another train; and you don’t want it to, route what you want first manually, or reply a reminder to stop ARS setting the route. ARS is a tool to reduce workload; it is not as intelligent or aware as you the signalman should be.

The calculations are done by the software and take into account the train's timings, each route's length (distance), and priority. The developer can tweak some routes here and there if they are exceptionally different (eg a particularly slow crossover in a route) but the end user cannot.

In real life ARS is not perfect either - i fact quite terrible in some places, but good in other places. The signaller has to watch and intervene when necessary. I can't remember how far they're getting with Traffic Management - a project which I worked on back in 2010-12 which has suffered some bumps and descaling, but there were options in there to change priorities. But in general real life most signallers don't get to alter the precedence either: they have to watch and intervene.
