Afternoon all,

One for the wishlist. In view of its closure in the early hours of Saturday 20th January, along with Huddersfield, I think that Healey Mills could make a good addition to the SimSig lineup in Yorkshire. It would also facilitate chaining between Leeds and Huddersfield by filling the missing gap between those two sims.

On its own itd be quite boring. However you could easily add in batley, horbury Junction and the line up to hebden bridge (to fringe with preston) it would be more interesting

Good point. Large panel though. Good idea to add up to Hebden Bridge to fringe with Preston though: considering the interest there was in a Preston sim not too long ago I will be surprised if someone doesn't build it sooner or later.

I'm surprised you haven't heard about it at a Derby meet!?

I remember hearing about it somewhere Karl but I can't recall where. Nor do I know what the latest progress is about any sim for Preston.

If Healey Mills gets done it would be far better if the sim catered for the BR era as opposed to the modern era. There was alot more going on at that location back in the day as opposed to the modern era. One of the main marshalling yards in the country to be built after the 1955 moderniosation plan.

If a developer decided to do Healey Mills and the plans were available we could have both eras for a bit of extra fun.

The modern era is pretty boring. The uard is essentially OOU so the panel controlled junction movements at two junctions for most of the day and thats it.

Healey mills used to be a really busy yard with its own depot. There were also plenty of localised trip workings based off the yard and more coal going over the pennines via hebden bridge.

Pascal am I right in thinking there was a seperate panel for the yard too or am I thinking of a different box

I'm not aware of a separate box controlling the yard apart from the hump towers, unlike Bescot which was controlled by Walsall PSB, but had a separate PSB named Bescot Down Tower. Funny I asked Geoff about this particular yard the other day & he said no one at present is creating it as part of a sim. This might end up breing one of the last ones done. I dare at some point it will be done. I've got signalling plans covering that area dating to the 1990s which cover between York station & west of Healey Mills yard towards Huddersfield. The other intersting aspect of Healey Mills is that K.43(SPEEDLINK) trip was diagrammed to be worked by a Cl.08 pilot & ran from Healey Mills yard to Horbury Jn & Dewsbury to shunt there. There's quite a few photos about of that trip going through Horbury cutting with a Cl.08 hauling a rake of wagons.

I have a copy of the 1963 Re Signalling Notice that was issued, This as well as covering the Mainlines also covered the Yard and the Hump Tower. Like Pascal I have got diagrams that cover the area and I think a 1990s timetable would be a good era to simulate with lots of freight and intense passenger operations.

Cheers,

All I know about it is that it's in progress and it won't cover the Blackpool branches.
