Not sure if anyone has asked this:

if you have a point failure, it's always no normal or no reverse, perhaps no detection whatsover might be a good one too

Or the other real world scenario, which is to try them on the switch two or three times to see if you can get detection. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Not sure how easy that would be to implement, but that would be good if throwing a few times would re-instate detection!

Not saying that it would ALWAYS do it, but a random-selected fault would repair itself by doing this.

Hopefully that makes sense!

Have them kick out under trains just to annoy the S&T when the detection tests fine with no trains about.
