Does anyone on here know what kind of diesel shunting loco were used on the internal railway at the Ford plant in Dagenham. Tere are a couple of trains that come into the Ford plant at Dagenham frpm Halewood on Merseyside diagrammed for an AC eletric Cl.87/1 or Cl.90/1 through to the exchange sdgs. The internal railway isn't wired so the BR loco only went that far. Then the traffic was no doubt picked up by one of Ford's diesel shunters. The only photo I can come across in a book of mine is dated in the 1970s showing an ex BR Cl.04 diesel shunter, but I also seem to recall seeing another photo in a book of mine of an ex BR Cl.03. Now at present I've timetablked 6L48 to the exchange sdgs where the electric comes off, but for the sake of arguement until I find something more substantial I created a Cl.03 shunter to come out of the works to pick up the traffic 6L48 has left as the eletric loco is diagrammed back to Wembley Stonebridge paek HS. There's no doubt more than 1 diesel loco on that internal railway. I know we never allocated a diesel loco off Ripple Lane TMD or Stratford TMD to trip traffic into & outo of the Ford plant during the 1990s except those trains that were diagrammed to be worked by a diesel. Does anyone on the forum have an re-collection as to whether ex BR Cl.08 shunters were also used on the internal railway at the Ford plant at Dagenham? Haven't been able to see any photos of diesel shunters there on the internet either, but someone on here may have local knowledge.

Hi Pascal,

Had a quick search (haven't much time right now) but if you read the description for the linked photo it confirms about the Class 03

Right chaps thanks for those links. I'll add in a couple of Cl.03 0-6-0 diesel mechanical shunters into the LTS 1994 timetable with some unique TDs to act as internal locos from the Dagenham Ford plant & the exchange sdgs nos. 1, 2 & 3. That should make for some extra shunt movements between those locations. Very nice little engines & the last ones I drove were back in 2005 on The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. They were more than capable of doing 28mph which is there max permitted speed. Thanks for the help Gareth & Paul.

It would appear that the Ford plant at Dagenham had at least 6 ex BR Cl.04 diesel mechanical shunters on its books & they worked until the mid 1990s accirdung to part 5 of 'The Allocation History of BR Diesel & Electrics series of books.
