While automatic random failures and delays are good.
Would it be possible to be able to manually trigger delays and failures from the incident control panel. Yes you can pause a train in place & remove point detection and restore it manually telling players in a host via the chat, but to trigger a failure that presents like an automatic one - through the messages window / incident report and is resolved by the automatic technician.

Examples of implementation:

Points:

If the 'induce failure' button is pressed, the failure of detection is 'scheduled' for the next change of the points
---------------------------------
Signals:

When the 'induce failure' button is pressed the following dialog opens:

This dialog allows the user to choose which aspects will fail, or select all of them to fail the entire signal
---------------------------------
Trains:

When the 'Delay train at next station' button is pressed, the following dialog opens:

This dialog allows the user to select delay type and time period, including a setting for the F3 'failure time' default

Also would be nice to have the ability to schedule an isolation to appear/disappear at set times to simulate engineering works starting or stopping at pre-programmed times - allows for scenarios to be more dynamic than for an isolation the whole 24 hour simulated period. This second thing is more complicated and would probably require more work to implement

The train now standing on platform 2, should be on the rails

You already can cause a failure with the incident panel by removing lamp proving, showing a track occupied or failing detection for points.

Only difference is you have to go back to it and cancel it manually rather than the technician calling.

I know that:

What I'm asking for is that you can tell SimSig that you want a specific failure and for SimSig to treat it as one instead of just role playing it, such that the hostees can't tell if the hoster did it or the sim decided to.

You will find this 'feature' in the following sims

East Coastway
Lime Street to Runcorn
Oxted.

If you select the 15th October 2009 scenario then all relevent possessions and line blockages that were booked to be taken on that day will be taken and surrendered by the relevent PICOP's and PICOW's

I get RFWs point. I second it would be fun/useful as a host to fail a specific set of points signals or track sections and treat it the wy SimSig would treat a random one (ie a message on the message window and relevant phone call) the same with trains being delayed.

The prepackaged isolations and possessions mentioned are good but very specific.

Does the modern-day Signalman get a message on screen when there is a TCF or points failure?

On the newer installations - yes. Alarms for Track Circuits not occupied in sequence, Alarms for lamp failures and so on.

If I understand what you are trying to get at - whilst I like the "Induce Failure" idea, it would be good if it did it completely random.

AKA you click the "Induce" button, and it picks a random signal/TC/train to do it to.

Which is pretty much the same as maxing failures but setting a limit on concurrency?

I think what he means is you hit induce then select a specific signal/point etc and specify what Is faulty and how long. Eg signal S464 is to fail with no yellow aspect for about 95 minutes.

Ah so you're still selecting the signal to fail....that's still not fun for me, I prefer that if you hit the Induce button, it picks any random one!

or for whatever time the F3 settings are at.

A way for, as a host, to say that you want a specific thing to fail in a specific way for a specific time. Or an option to tell the sim to add a random failure (overriding the F3 maximum failure counter) and bypassing the RNG.

Exactly what I was meaning, but for a timetable developer to be able to implement them through a ssg, rather than a developer made scenario.
Eg: I could build a timetable & ssg for Kingscross where the Hitchin flyover is under an overrunning engineering possession until 10:00 and have the ENG isolation of the track disappear at 10.
