Train with same UID Schedule Code, but enters sim multiple times 06/10/2018 at 15:57 #112487

So as I mentioned in the title above, train with same UID Schedule Code, but enters sim multiple times. Question is, in timetable making can I just use the same code e.g. H45264 for the multiple entries it makes on its schedule? or Should I split them into A/B/Cs e.g. H45264-A?
I'm just curious as to what other people thing as I have other timetables for Carlisle in 2016 when I used 3J11 muliple times but split the train up.

H45264 - 3J11 1621 Carlisle Kingmoor Tmd(Drs) to Carlisle Kingmoor Sdg(Drs) - DRS Class 66 Top n Tail + 3 FEA-F RHTT
H45974 - 3S08 0453 Wigan L.I.P. to Wigan L.I.P. - Network Rail MPV RHTT
H41505 - 3S08 2315 Wigan L.I.P. to Wigan L.I.P. - Network Rail MPV RHTT

Image of the trains I have used..

I use suffixes for seeds (H12345S) and repeats after midnight(H98765E) as well as for rule definition (H12345B must not enter until 45 mins after H12345A has left the area) sort of thing. Unscheduled runrounds, random shunt moves etc or anything that doesnt appear in a CIF are prefixed E, so if H12345 has a runround the light engine would be E12345.

Thanks for that Meld. I see what you mean and might use your idea. Although minus the rules though as I don't think I want a rule in place for these trains as there some few hours between each entry of the trains apart from B/C shown in the image.

I tend to make my own UID which comprises the train code as well as the origin and terminus stations of the train. So, for example, a train coded 1Z85 from Plymouth to Birmingham New Street would be given the UID of 1Z85PLYBHM.

Hi Aaron,

My method is similar to Meld's but does depend on type of train and how it is formed...

Firstly like Dave I have my own UID sequencing and not the real which comprises of the 4 digit headcode, then 2 letter T/FOC then a number eg 1S08SE1

For example if in Wimbledon or London Bridge it is a circular passenger train that is formed in the sim at a station then when it leaves and re-enters I keep the same UID.

However if it is a freight / RHTT that enters the sim, leaves and re-enters I increase the last digit so 3S91NR1 would become 3S91NR2 etc having it "change" at a stopping point in one of the sims (which one depends on the schedules (could be in the current sim or the one it leaves into etc) Like Meld this also helps with the rules.

Have a look at my 2012 Vic Cent & Vic SE for the 3Sxx & 8Yxx if it's clearer than my wording early this morning!

Thanks for that Gareth.
At present for 3J11 I have used Melds seeding idea, so H45264S - Seeded
Then H45264A/B/C/D/E for each time it enters the sim at various times etc. I also did this with 3S08 too.
I tested it out this morning wildly at sometime before 3am and 3J11 seems to have behaved normally without rules applied. 3S08 also the same as it's two different UID codes etc.
I presume if a scenario was in place like bad weather and medium to heavy delays I could end up with 2 or 3 of the same train in the sim.. so I guess rules would be needed in place? but oddly what if there hours between each entry and exit?

Working example...

Train

Headcode 3S99, UID in real life H45260

Sim

Fictional sim Hornby Junction with the following layout (Hornby Junction is at the Junction)

Stopham --------
\
Gatestown ------------------- Weatherall

Timetable

Gatestown
Hornby Junction
Weatherall
Hornby Junction
Stopham
Hornby Junction
Weatherall
Hornby Junction
Gatestown

Now this basically gets split into the following

Train 1
Gatestown
Hornby Junction
Weatherall

Train 2
Weatherall
Hornby Junction
Stopham

Train 3

Stopham
Hornby Junction
Weatherall

Train 4

Weatherall
Hornby Junction
Gatestown

If we give every train the same UID then we don't actually need any rules, assuming the timetable is running smooth, as Train 2 can't enter the sim till Train 1 has left (As they have the same UID).

This also works very roughly when Train 1 gets to Weatherall as the train just reverses in the platform and comes back.

It doesn't so well when Train 2 gets to Stopham, as it needs to shunt onto the single line to Anytown in order to head back. Train 3 could enter the minute Train 2 leaves the sim.

So then you need some rules. At which point it makes sense to give every portion a UID with a suffix. But remember you need to rule 2 against 1, 3 against 2, 4 against 3, and so on.

Now your head hurts

Our train starts its day at Gatestown, and finishes up there, using the convenient sidings provided for stabling. Now helpfully there is a second RHTT set kept on standby in the yard between Anytown and Stopham. So although we have rules to prevent train 3 entering before train 2 has run, in real life control might decide to deploy the standby set as the original set is running well behind time.

Do the rules need to factor in that eventuality? I'll leave that up to you to decide.

Thanks for that Karl, little confusing then made more sense as I went a long.
So I guess I've done it correctly and split them into separate trains. Using -A/-B/-Cs etc etc.

3J11 1621 Carlisle Kingmoor Tmd(Drs) to Carlisle Kingmoor Sdg(Drs) - DRS Class 66 Top n Tail + 3 FEA-F RHTT
H45264-S - Seeds at Carnforth North Jn
H45264-A - Enters at Oxenholme and Exits at Lango via Preston/Blackburn
H45264-B - Enters at Settle Jn and Exits at Settle Jn via Carnforth D&UGL
H45264-C - Enters at Lango and Exits at Arnside via Blackbrun/Preston/Carnforth
H45264-D - Enters at Arnside and Exits at Oxenholme via Carnforth D&UGL

3S08 0453 Wigan L.I.P. to Wigan L.I.P. - Network Rail MPV RHTT
H45974-A - Enters at WiganNW and Exits at Bromley Cross via Blackburn/Hall Royd Jn Rev/Blackburn
H45974-B - Enters at Rochdale and Exits at Hebden Bridge
H45974-C - Enters at Hebden Bridge and Exits at Rochdale
H45974-D - Enters at Lostock Jn and Exits at Lostock Jn via Fast Lines to/from Preston
H45974-E - Enters at WiganNW and Exits at WiganNW via Slow Lines to/from Preston

3S08 2315 Wigan L.I.P. to Wigan L.I.P. - Network Rail MPV RHTT
H41505-A - Enters at Wigan NW and Exits at Kirkham North Jn via Preston on Slow Line/Down Goods
H41505-B - Enters at Kirkham North Jn and Exits at WiganNW via Preston on Slow Line

It would be up to you whether you put in rules or not Aaron. I tend to, purely as if someone is simming with delays and failures if the scheduled exit route is blocked eg points failure it could well be a few hours before it's cleared etc and prevents the later ones entering before the previous has left.

For the rules I'll look at the schedule (generally ignoring pathing allowances etc) and use the minimum time from when your first leaves and the next will re-enter. eg (in your case) -B must not enter until x minutes after -A has left area.

Thanks again Gareth. I've added rules for each etc. I did test it without rules and they enter/exit without issue.

I presume I have done this correct. I tested without the rules applied and 1x 3S08 didn't enter from Wigan at 2320hrs. It was the one and only train that didn't enter out of 932 trains in the timetable.
